On board water solutions

Hi,
I,m interested in what people have in place to carry water.

My 100 series cruiser has a drawer sytem and a longrange fuel tank. hence these areas are not an option for water. I,m interested to know what options people have taken to cart water. I could put jerry cans on roof racks but not keen on that idea?

Welcome suggestions

Water Bladder in the footwell of the 2nd row of seats with a board/cover over the top seems to work well.

Agreed, except ours is hard plastic, holds 40 litres ( Hilux Dual Cab ) and works well.

Just a thought, are these bolted down? Be very dangerous in an accident.

G'day Noel,

This is what I used in my 100 series (with drawers and long range fuel tank):

In a gu patrol there is enough space on rear passenger side between interior trim and outer metal body skin above rear wheel arch to edge of window glass to fit 20litre water bladder ,out of sight takes up wasted space leaves more room to pack gear, supplier is floatpac. Take off interuior trim fit bladder using existing reinforced bolt holes with bolts supplied run outlet hose to wherever it suits cut hole for inlet pipe, replace trim jobs done.

I have a 90 series prado with a black widow tourer drawer system. Between the drawers and the second row of seats I have the dolium 50l vertical cut-out water tank. It is a very tight fit. The fixed decking over the wheel arches is just large enough to fit a 20 litre plastic jerry can on each side of the drawers. I currently use the hose fitted to the tank for gravity feed out the rear passenger door, but I am looking at setting up an electric pump and tap to the rear of the drawers by the fridge. Having separate containers means I can carry water of different qualities for different purposes if needed, eg poor quality water for washing, good quality fro drinking and cooking.

some companies such as Opposite Lock sell a water container that bolts up underneath your vehicle next to the chassis rail, approx. underneath your front drivers or passenger seats. Longranger also sell one (available through ARB), but i beleive it is only for live axle models (though i could be wrong).

scroll down to bottom of this link for longranger version pics...

they aren't cheap by any means, but it's an option.

We have a stainless custom water tank installed in the blanking panel on the drivers side of the drawers. Have a look at the water tank article for what we do - it is a great system and I will do the same type of thing again next time round.

That looks like a pretty good idea. Also looks like a pretty fiddly job to get the dimensions right. How much water does it hold and can you give an estimate of cost?

Chisel,
I am was able to draw the dimensions and give them to LongRanger in Melbourne. They had a 'full height cargo barrier' water tank available, I just had to advise to make adjustments to allow for brackets at the back to fit the draw system and also a cut out to handle the barrier holder. It was actually simple for me as all I had to do was put it in and adjust the draw system to get it installed.

I think it was around $400, so not the cheapest but I have used it for 8 years and never had a single problem, carries around 70l.

$400 seems like an very, very good price for a 70L custom stainless tank.

Yeah maybe but it was a number of years ago and I really cannot remember 100% - I suspect it could/would be more now but how much I do not really know.

I have a drawer system and still have a 60L water tank. My drawers are "only" 900mm long and not 1100mm that they otherwise could be. It works great and would go that way again when changing vehicles. There are more details on it in My Blog.

Cheers
