I've looked but most responses are for ozi explorer. Is there good turn by turn software available for XP?

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Do you want it for XP, or for your GPS, I can"t understand how you would use turn by turn voice on your PC,
I have mapsource and do the routes and then send it to my GPS, which gives me the voice instructions ,
Cheers Des.

I want it for my xp. I have a Viliv S5 and I am using Mapsphere, which is great for general mapping, but was wondering if turn by turn was available as software. I believe I can use route 66 or tomtom if using a windows mobile proxy? Touble is some have said this is inefficient.

Cheers,

Mark

Waste of time. Bite the bullet and get yourself an Iphone. You can even jailcreak the Iphone in a minute and then take your pick of Tom Tom, Co-Pilt, Navigon, there all there to try. IMO

Hey Signman, Jailbreak should have been. Jailbreaking your Iphone unlocks the device so you can break free from Apple's restrictions. It does not effect the phone in anyway shape or manner, except that you will have access to all sorts of software Apple will not approve via the Itunes site. Once jailbroken you can download free software via www.apptrackr.org

To jailbreak your Iphone visit jailbreak your Iphone (Plse check what OS you are running 1st)

Details here.

Copilot live for laptop at www.alk.com. It's the same as their win mobile PDA version but runs on a laptop. Mike

Mike, do you use this? How good are the Aussie maps? What maps can you use with it?

From the web site it looks prety good but the site is a bit short on detail.

I have the win mobile version for pda's and smart phones. Its comparable to TomTom and the like. I've never used the laptop version though. Cheers

The other one I have used is called Destinator. They used to have a laptop version as well. Mike

I agree with Mike as I use the Copilot on our Samsung Q1 which is running Vista (imminent upgrade to Windows 7) and it is good.
I did hear somewhere that they may not be supplying in to Australia any more but not 100 percent on this, we also run Ozi on the pc for off road use.

We got ours through GPSOZ a number of years ago so might be worth checking in with them

Thanks for the replies. I've looked at most. Neither Copilot nor Garmin are supporting software or maps for Australia anymore. I may look at these anyway but really I'm looking for something with more support.

There are a couple of alternatives, I'm currently trialling Centrafuse which is a brilliant GUI for windows touch screens and has an apparently very good GPS mapping system. I say apparently because the trial version doesn't have the Australian maps!! It's also quite expensive, so I really want to know if the maps are okay.

I have an Iphone, not what I'm looking for (okay for a phone but too many limitations for my liking). The Viliv runs Windows XP (I might upgrade to 7 with its touch support) and has inbuilt gps, bluetooth, wi-fi and 3g as well as USB input and video in/out. In the states their are some great options for pc based machines but we just don't get the support here. I'll keep looking. If anyone has any more suggestions I'm all ears. Again Thanks for the help so far. It's given me some options.

Cheers,

Mark

My first GPS software on PDA was Destinator and the maps were as good as TomTom. I imagine the newer versions are OK. I used it around Australia and Europe as well in 2006. I've had TomTom, Copilot and Sygic since and find them all about the same. Mike

Mark,

I use Freedrive with Destinator maps on my car PC running XP pro. It isn't as good as some of the later programs, but does the job well and I have maps up to 2005. Not sure if the later Destinator maps work with it, but it has worked well for me for many years.

Try http://www.freedrive.co.uk/

Cheers,
Chaz
