Will a 2H engine fit in a 1979 HJ45

Hi,
I was wondering if you could help me out,i have a HJ45 landcruiser,built the 8th month 1979 with a H engine and i was wanting to know will a 2H engine out of a 1989 HJ45 fit into it,and what would need to be changed to make it fit if needed.

Yep I did it to a troopie years ago, BUT you need the later 4 speed, change (move or add) the gearbox mount, and move engine mounts. You can use the same radiator but you will have to turn the thermostat housing around as the top rad hose in on opposite sides of the vehicle for H and 2H.
Can't remember if I had to change the drive shafts but I had a donor vehicle anyway and all up the local mechanic did it and towed the doner vehicle home for $300 bargain.
The earlier 4 speed was geared a little taller as
well. You can go a 5 speed. There is a version that still has the transmission brake on the Transfer case or go a later version and change the rear diff to handbrake version from a 62 or 75.

Ahh thanks heaps mate.
Yea sounds like a bit to much work just to get this thing running. Just cant seem to find a motor at the moment. Thanks heaps for the fast response.

They don't do 4# series and they have no intention of doing so (I asked) so for 40 series stuff go to
IH8mud.com but they are only just getting to diesels in the states but still a wealth of info and a lot of Oz members.
