I have a Garmin Nuvi 1490T which has Whereis map. I have found a number of errors, one quite serious in that it shows a bridge across the river in Mackay where one does not exist and has not existed for a number of years. I found the website to report map errors
Whereis report-a-map-error I encourage and implore users to report errors so we can have accurate maps.
The other gripe I have is POIs that are sometimes inaccurate, some several Km in error or don't exist. You can report these to whereisadmin@sensis.com.au
Of interest (or not), while researching some POIs I found that the BP locate a servo site can't get there own info correct. I found that Google Map is more accurate.

I understand your problem and the only way to fix it would be to update the G.P.S. I find it strange that it shows P.O.I.'s several kilometres away from their actual location though. If you think that Google Maps is more accurate, it would have to be as so many more people use it and therefore, there would be more chance that the problem would be eliminated. Are you sure that the bridge is not a rail bridge? If you bought the G.P.S. while this bridge still existed, obviously the bridge would still show up on the G.P.S., but I am guessing that you have purchased the G.P.S. after the bridge had been demolished. If you updated the G.P.S. and the bridge does not disappear, you could claim for a refund, especially if you paid for something that you are not getting. I was a local Mackay resident for 13 years, so just out of interest, could you please tell me the location of the bridge?

The GPS is only a couple of months old and the map is the latest from Garmins 'life time free map update'. The map is WhereIs and shows the same on their website map
WhereIs Type in Mackay and have a look at Bridge Rd. If that link doesn't work, it is Bridge Rd near the hospital. I fuelled up at the Coles servo on the corner of the highway and could only get out on to Bridge Rd towards the river. The GPS then directed me along Bridge Rd and even when we got to the end the GPS still wanted me to go across the river.
This post shows that you can't trust even the latest gizmos.

I have since found out that the 'old' 'hospital bridge' was closed in Apr 2009. Maps should have been updated by now.

Yes, I thought that was the bridge that you were inquiring about. All GPS manufacturers will take time to update the maps that they publish. If you were in a town that had a larger
population, there would be more of a chance of the problem getting updated, obviously because more people would inquire about the problem, which would tell the manufacturer that there actually is a problem as more people are reporting the problem. If I was you, I would report the problem using different accounts and different statements, which would make the manufacturer realise that there is a problem, so they could evidently fix it. It was good that Danielle form Sensis saw this post, as now maybe there can be even more chance of the problem being fixed. I'm no expert, but if only there was a way to blacklist a certain section of a road on your GPS. Currently, I have a 6 year old Garmin C550 GPS, and the processes on the GPS would definitely be out of date, but on a newer system there could be a possibility to blacklist a road.

I drove into a paddock in Germany once following
mine. My wife reckons GPS's are a bit of a joke and prefers paper due to the errors but I think they are fun. Speed limits are constantly wrong though. Mike

Sorry to say that Garmin maps are hopeless as are their selected
routes!
I have just bought a new one to replace my old Garmin Nuvi 310 & it is nowhere near as good as the old one.
My wife's Ebay $65.00 special 5" GPS with IGO software is much better.

x2 for the IGO8 software.
I have a garmin for work and use an ebay 5" unit in the Jack with IGO8 and Ozi on it as
well. Much prefer the IGO software to garmin, navman or Tom Tom (all of which I have owned)

Hi Rod, Danielle from Sensis here. Great to see you've used our 'report a map error'. I've just followed up with our mapping team to make sure they have it registered.
Just so you know, Whereis works very hard to ensure our maps are as up-to-date and accurate as possible. As I am sure you understand, it's a big job mapping the whole country. Our team of mapping experts drive more than 240,000kms each year capturing data that goes into our database - which then ends up in portable nav devices, in-car nav devices and a range of mobile and iPhone mapping applications.
Thanks again for the heads up on the bridge in Mackay - please continue to let us know of any issues you have via our whereismaps.com.au website.
Danielle from Sensis

Thanks Danielle. Appreciate the problems of keeping maps up-to-date. It's a big job given the rate of change of roads, particularly here in Qld. What is the expected time frame from road change to map up date?

If you do maps that go in a Tom Tom it would be good to fix the WA highway
down past
Port Gregory that for quite a few k's is about 250m into a
salt lake.
Took ages to get all the salt off.
