G'day Alan,
What "issues" exactly would we be talking about here ??
I have 2 of these radios (1 in each vehicle), the oldest of which would be about 4 y/o, and I have not experienced any "issues" to date....
I'd be interested to know what these "issues" may be (so that I know what to watch out for;-))............
Regards, Ed C

Hi Alan
'
I haved used several versions of GME over the years, and currently one of my UHF's is a GME TX3220, never had a problem with any of them, and that includes the 4600 that I had in my troopie, which I sold, with the radio in, some three years ago.
I seriously think many people like to relate stories about different radios (or anything else for that matter), simply because they have a specific preference. UHF's, no matter what brand, are a valuable means of communication when you are travelling around.
Cheers

Hi Alan
I have no comment on current production but have in past reffered to design issues in software that drives this and its brother (4400).
I have specifically refferred to weakness in CTCSS decoding algorythm but most people don't use this function anyway.
I'm a little wary about GME but never the less , just got a TX 3220 for my new car.
One of the functional issues I find important is rotary controls and 4600 doesn't have these and its more meant for use as a radio that can take a splashing..

If my 4600 took a splashing it would be the last thing on my mind seeing as it is mounted in a roof console heheheh!!!

Hi Alan
We have sold lots of these at work and they are a good reliable unit. One of the wineries in the area runs quite a few quad bikes with UHF radios fitted for vineyard work. They were continualy repairing other models that were damaged due to the bikes being either out in rain or getting a good soaking when they were cleaned with a pressure cleaner. Since they have the new TX 4600 weatherproof units fitted to the quads, they have had not had one problem and I am now talking at least 3 years.
At this time of the year, I would personally hold out and see what new models come out early next year with the release on the extra channels.
Cheers
Stephen

Thanks everyone for your input I cannot tell you the so called problem a friend at work was going to fit one to his vehicle but was told to steer clear of the set reason could not remember so I thought if I asked our members out there I would uncover any underlying problems but your feedback tells me the opposite thanks to all that replied regards Alan.

No probs with my 4600 (nearly) 4 year old unit, which gets used and abused....
Not heard anything bad about this unit.
