Hi

Me my husband and two children age 6 and 4 will be living our dream and traveling Australia as soon as harvest is over here in W.A. Should be around the start of Feb with the way things are atm. We are traveling in a 08 Diesel cruiser and a 08 Coromal lifestyle family van L610.

I would love to hear and keep in contact with other families who are doing the same, and i no there are ALOT of you out there

I would LOVE it if there is anyone out there who could answer some of my questions, i have tried to find online blogs but cant seem to find the info im after.

Have you worked around Australia while having a family?? How did you approach an employee?? Do they pay you cash money if your only working a short time? Or mainly on the books??

What was you rough budget per week??
Clearly this would vary ALOT with the different vehicles used, attractions etc.

Did you do any free camping?? Or only caravan parks. If free camping, what are your thoughts on this?

What was the MOST you paid per night at a caravan park??

Did you have any troubles with people along the way ( stealing, abuse, road rage etc ) ??

Im very much looking forward to hearing back from you all and thankyou in advance.

Livit,

Might be time to spend a few bucks and become a member of Exploroz. The extra benefits are well worth it. With the number and type of questions you have, the networking alone would be invaluable.

Check out the Brennans blogs in the blog section. There are a few spreadsheets amongst some of the blogs as well detailing costs and the likes.

I spent 13 months on the road with a camper trailer in 2006 (no kids). We didn't free camp as much as I'd have liked as the highways tend to funnel you into tourist type accommodations (Caravan Parks). The costs of travelling and living at home can be pretty much equivalent by the time you pay $50 a night for a family of four at a caravan park, fuel etc. Soon adds up to a house mortgage. I kept an incredibly detailed spreadsheet for the time on the road and was shocked. Worth every penny though.

Enjoy it.

Cheers Mick

Liveit.
Welcome aboard. To answer your first question, you being farmers will have no trouble getting work, you will be treated just like you would treat a visitor to your farm. You may be offered food and accommodation and may be some cash. Once you get the first job the word will spread and you will have the next job lined up before you leave. Eric

Hi Lovit Good friends of ours traveled around for 2 years working. They registered with Woolworth s as night packers in the super market. They would contact the super market in the next town on there list and of travel and when they would be there and for how long. By staying with Woolworth s they were accepted as part of their employee team got work every where they went. they got good money and some benifits.

Hi Liveit,

No trouble getting work if you are farmers,

Certainly join exploreoz and it will be both very helful to answer questions and save you money in the long term.

Get a Camps 5 snaps. Well worth the extra money for the snaps books not just the camps 5. It will answer the free camping questions. Try to find someone travelling the opposite directions and id they make notes in their camps book copy them to yours.

No road rage and safety issues. Get a CB and learn the truck channels. Monitor them and help them to overtake if you are slower. They are just trying to earn a living as well.

Most expensive caravan park is Queenscliffe Victoria Big 4 at $85 a night for a powered site. Get a Big 4 meembership as well. The dicount will pay for itself in no time.

If you are a a member you might like to shoot a message to "Motherhen" as she is a farmer from WA (the SW) and one of the best people to ask about traveling around oz. She will have many other tips as well.

I work and it is only cash. Have no trouble doing this.

You have great tow vehicle and caravan so enjoy the expereince. there are thousands of really nice and helpful people out there doing the same time.
