What is the best remedy to remove the stains, and what can i use to clean it
to prevent new attac?
Thank you+

There is a cleaner made for those Vinyl side curtains on transports.

Made by Roylances and it works well. (a mate gave me a bit) Can't remember the name but it's green and you can only buy it in 5 litre containers.

Other than that I have used dishwashing liquid in warm water with one of those flat microfibre floor mops. That works Ok but not as good at the truckies stuff.

Hi there Jorgan, we have the same problem with ours, I think it's caused by moisture, even though, like us, you roll it up dry.
Our procedure has always been to clean both sides of the awning & the van thoroughly with a product called CT 18 which is commonly called "Truck Wash". In my opinion it is a very good product, simple to use & instructions clearly written on the container and it is readily available at all Automotive type distributors, Super Cheap, Auto Pro, Repco etc & maybe even hardware stores.

I think you need to do it on a regular basis, thus helping to prevent dust etc getting ingrained into the fabric.

I was a bit horrified recently, as some personal circumstances have prevented us from using our van this year. We gave it a good clean, including the roll out after last use back in January & parked it in our back yard with a cover over it.

Anyway, recently I had occasion to roll the awning out to do a small repair job & was horrified at how dirty & stained it was on the underside. We managed to get it looking Spic & Span again by using CT18, which is good, but the mess it was in has destroyed my faith & belief in the virtues of breathable van covers.

There is some good info on archived thread # 54080 which might be of interest to you as well. Good luck

Just dont leave Truck wash on to long as it takes the shine off two pack paint so god knows what it will do to a Vinyl awning

Read your instructions They tell you what to and what not to use.

Our Carefree says no strong detergents.

If you read the instructions on this product, CT18,you will note that the manufacturer states it is suitable for vinyl & they recommend that it be left for 20 minuted or so to allow it to penetrate the dirt & grime, they even state you can leave it on overnight. We leave it on our Carefree for about half an hour or so prior to agitating with a soft broom & then rinsing. We do this to both sides, including the cladding on our Pop Top.

Can't comment on two pak paint, and I don't think the manufacturer makes comment on their label ref. specific paints, but we have not experienced any problems with CT18 on Vinyl, Canvas or Duco type painted surfaces.

it is an excellent product in my opinion & will do what the manufacturer states it will do with no harm to the surface it is being used on & that they recommend that it can be used on including vinyl.

Havent read the instructions as it was in unmarked drums in our washbay but we used to use it to wash buses with and after a few months it noticeably took the shine off the paint.

Boss stopped us from using it on the new ones we got and paint stayed shinier.
As long as it got washed of after only a few minutes it didnt seem so bad.
Wouldnt like to leave it on vinyl at recommended strength for any length of time.
If you find it ok thats fine

Just telling it as a user for 5 years.

have to agree with Barry here.......we use it on all of our 17 trucks (some with close to a million kilometres on them ) and the paint work still looks like new.

Graham....maybe you ( or whoever) is mixing the truck wash up too strong hence the paint dulling?

it works a treat on our curtain side trailers.CT 18 do bring out a wash specially for vinyl curtains.

cheers.

Knowing my boss it was watered down as was everything. Maybe was the brushes we used rather than the wash.

Have just looked at Carefree washing instructions and it says to use water and natural soap, NO detergents.

Whatever.

Mark,
Graham may have been referring to the old CT12 truck wash. It would take the shine of a diamond.

It would do the same as Tepol, make your truck look like it was 30 yrs old.

Have a good one.

Jorgen S
I think a lot of people tend to wash their awnings etc with pressure, and what tends to happen is the waterproof in the tarp tends to be washed out thus taking out the protection it offers when new.
Can be rectified by washing with sponge and allowing to dry and then re-coating with a suitable tarp type treatment.
Hope this is of some help.

Paul

Forgot to add, It does not need to be done each time you wash it, but you should allow it to "Air out " for a good period of time before rolling/folding it up again.
Sorry if this creates confusion

Windex or Spray and wipe gets them clean quickly and easily, just hose off after a quick wipe.

Cheers.

I have been using CT18 for over 15years without a single problem.
Used as per instructions and it really does a great job.
Another truck wash convert.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Hi Jorgen,

I have had some success for spot cleaning with an 'Eraser' block available form Coles/Woolies etc.
