you eat the bear
I've read with interest the threads about the benefits of running both UHF and SSB 27Mhz radios.
Enough good feedback to convince me that putting the old PC122 unit in the car was a worthwhile excercise.
So a few hours later and it's in.....but (here's the question), how do I know it's working?
A few years ago a simple "radio check, please" on Channel 8 would have sorted that out but I've been through 40 channels (on sideband too) and there is no traffic at all!
Either it is my wiring, my old Uniden is broken or there's just noone there.
Any thoughts on how I can test it (and I've lost my old SWR meter somewhere along the track) would be very welcome.
Cheers
Stephen

Stephen
post on here your suburb and maybe someone there with 27Mhz can arrange to listen for you at a prearranged time.
JMHO Colin.

Good thinking, Colin!
Actually, I did hear someone on sideband (so it's receiving OK) but they scarpered before I could get a radio check.
Croydon, Victoria if someone local can assist that would be great.

Thers always someone up around ch 25 ssb and there is right now in nearby Wantirna 8pm.
First though do this simple check , when you plug in the aerial you should here an increase in noise out of the speaker.
With a PC122- make sure RF gain is turned up.
