Hi all,

My recent post regarding what fridge to choose raised another question for me. It is fairly clear that I should have a dual battery kit in my Prado (120 series). I have no idea what is good or bad. How much I can expect to pay and where to source a good supplier of one.

Thanks in advance for your help with this one.

Cheers

Steph

Its hard to know what is best without an idea of your lifestyle/type of camping.

We go for lightweight and efficentcy , so fitted a 23lt Waeco between the cars front seats tossing out the centre console , and ended up with almost as much space as before.

We can do this as we have sort of vegetarian meals and absolutely take no frozen meat fish chicken etc which we feel has contributed to much bad food and tummy upsets amongst tourers.

This small fridge then requires little in the way of power - no need for second battery , and we were able to fit the next size up battery into the cars existing holder.

In the worst case , you just ran the car for 15 minutes twice a day and charge existing battery.

If you choose to go down the dual path - give Pirhana offroad a call , they and similar like those who advertize on this site have been doing this for a while and a couple of phone calls will show you that its sort of a standard product with relatively similar costs.

have a look at www.sidewinder.com.au

derek is a member on here, his advice and service are exceptional.

i ordered an isolator, monitor and other gear from him for my 120 and received them here in NSW the very next day before lunch time. To my knowledge some of his gear is referred to as "ABR" others "Sidewinder" or a combination of ABR-"Sidewinder" but if you have any questions simply ask him. If you email him he will reply very promptly and as i said, i have always found his advice being excellent. He has a 150 Prado so is familiar with the Toyotas

there are others also on here that can help too. have a look through the search feature and you will find a lot of ideas and advice, cheers

Hi Stephen
I have had two systems fitted by Piranha, first in our 80 series and recently into our 100 series. If you are a handy guy they will sell you the bits or like me just drop it in and pick it up when its finished with all the bits fitted with the necessary sockets to run your fridge and inverter etc.
The gear is good and the guys there are very helpful.

Bill
