We have just returned from a rather spontaneous trip into outback QLD, Northern Territory, SA and into the absolutely beautiful
Simpson Desert.
We had heat, and storms, and mud.... and green, green, green and flowers!
I am in the process of putting some of my happy snaps into galleries and I was so overwhelmed with the beauty of the landscape I just wanted to share it with others - so you can see what has happened to the landscape after such nourishing, rejuvenating rain.
If you are interested in seeing some of the snaps of our trip you can follow this link to one of the pages of my blog -
travels page, and go down and choose a gallery from November 2010.
You can go directly to the
Simpson Desert 2 gallery which has the most flowers.
I hope you enjoy seeing some of what we saw. I will be adding more galleries over the coming weeks as I sort through my photos.
If you have any questions about where we went, I would only be too happy to tell you.

I know Bob. We wanted to just stay for weeks - pottering a little way then
camping and walking amongst the garden, but we had our eye on another huge rain front which would have meant that we may have been stuck for far longer than we had available; considering it was a rather spontaneous adventure in the first place.
We had planned for a short trip to around
Windorah and ended up at
Birdsville again. We both squatted on the dune just east of the
water near Big Red, and my husband looked at me and siad "Don't you even think about it!" I had this crazy idea since the sand was damp, the weather was cool, and
the desert was GREEN!. We drove around to Mt Dare, dropped off our trialer to collect later, and off we went.
We have all our recovery gearsat phone, cb, etc and everything, so the only thing we needed was a bit of courage to do it on our own.... and I drove instead of my husband - so it was a personal challenge!
We have the bug and will be back next year!

Hi Julie
It is always great to see other people pictures of
the desert. We were also out there again this year, to me the
water was the most unreal event. Yes
the desert was full of
wildflowers, but I personally think that the flowers were better back in 2004.
I bet the flies were keeping you company.
Let us all know when you add more great pictures.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Stephen, Yes the
water was amazing. I've not been out there before after rain so I can't compare it to anything other than heat and dust and sand!.
The flies were fine. I don't really mind them - except when they get into my tear ducts - I don't like that. The mozzies were disgusting. Trying to
cook dinner and running the gauntlet into the tent to eat was our biggest challenge. They were ferocious and were like squadrons bombarding the screen of the tent at night - trying to barge their way in. Sometimes their squeals were so loud!
I will keep in touch here as I load more galleries. I make a post on
my blog when I load a new gallery for those who are interested in seeing some more pics of the greeen, flowers, mud and amazing landscape.

Hi Julie,
We were lucky enough to have planned a trip across the Simpson this year, so we also got to see the "Garden". What a beautiful sight!
Thanks for the link to your photos, I love the angles you have taken, and the contrast between the greenery and the red sand with the dark clouds above is amazing!
Well done!
Cheers

Thanks Brian for your kind words. The angles came about because they were literally 'point and shoot' as we went over the bumps slowly - or as we were driving along. One hand on the camera just aiming toward somethng i found interesting. I couldn't see the screen at the back without my glasses - so it was 'hope for the best'!
