hello some tips re TV reception
I bought a household tv anntena tried it last weekend up at renmark and could not get reception we where staying in the Big 4 and every one else could get reception but me ,
I bought a small but a full rotation by remote and has inbuilt booster with a high db gain works great from home but out in the parks no good .
I need to know if I need a dedicated van aerial as I have seen these on vans and campers but I would have thought same thing just more bulky.
thankyou for your help
cheers

Everyone has their own ideas on what is the best antenna,

I used a household antenna for years and found it worked well. I did add a booster to it and that certainly helped. Do you connect your antenna directly to the TV or do you go through the caravan wired connection with an external socket.

Sometimes these get disrupted or corroded, might be worth taking the antenna lead directly to the telly.

I now have a Wyngard and it is good, has an inbuilt booster.

There are heaps of other special van antennas best to talk to a dealer I guess.

i agree with notso. even at home i had to buy from dicksmith a booster that plugs into a powerpoint for one of our tvs. we just could not get reception in that one room, anywhere else is fine. i had a van antenna and ended up selling it as i found a small household antenna was all i ever needed. i just recently change vans and this one came with a simple pvc type antenna and when i tried that out a few weks back it worked just great where i was. i also would recommend plugging direct into tv from antenna where possible, even if its just to check reception. if money is no object i am sure you will get plenty of suggestions here. your location and even where you are in a van park etc can sometimes effect your reception compared to a neighbouring vans....

Dont forget that some areas are vertical and some horizontal. look around at other antennas in the park to determine which as it makes a big difference.Cheers marn

You can check the impedance level of the 'through the wall' connection of the van. My guy said it knock the signal down heaps (forget the numbers). The difference between putting the antenna lead though the window, into a signal booster (240v) and then the TV was 1. Van - broken signal or no signal and 2. Window etc - all channels.
Have been using it on the road through QLD, NT and WA and I get as many channels as those with the rotating self seeking antennas.
My antenna is the simple white bar (Wanderer?).
I also had the wire on the antenna replaced with a heavy duty one.
