I have a Longranger
water tank under my 120 Prado. It is a real task to kneel down and grovel under the vehicle and turn on the tap. I was thinking of mounting a self priming 12 volt pump that will need to be above the lowest point of the
tank water level. Will a self priming pump suck up the
water say 300 mil above the
water level in the
tank? Has any one had experience with this situation ? Anything particular to look out for in purchasing a pump ?

No problems at all. They will lift it further than 30cm if need be. I have used a small pump to move
water up from my 80 litre
tank built into the tray of the ute. I would recommend that you use a
Y junction or similar to plumb the pump in with and retain your manual tap as an emergency back-up should the 12 volt pump pack it in. There are plenty of pumps and options. Sure-flo and Flo-jet are the two most common brands around and available from caravan/RV supply
places like Carac. Very easy to install, plumb and wire.
Cheers Mick

Oh yeah, another tip, whilst these pumps are pressure pumps and will turn off, make sure you wire them through a switch as
well so you can turn them on and off manually at leisure. Saves a disaster should a tap come open accidently etc.

Thanks Mick for your post. I can now go ahead and install the pump and tap and look forward to no longer having to crawl under the Prado !!.
Many thanks
