Mike
To reduce the photos I use a program called "Easy Thumbnails" which is a free download from this
site. It's very easy to use. Just read the instructions and try a few different settings till you get the size you want. As I said I reduce all the pics before I start the upload. When you are ready to insert them go to the bottom of the blog and click on "edit blog", when the edit screen opens, click on "upload new images". With a bit of practice you will be able to move the pics around within the blog by clicking and dragging the embedded code (still in the edit screen). To start with it's probably easier to upload one at a time and move it around. Right at the bottom of the edit screen, below the list of tags (categories), is the "Preview" button, after you have inserted a pic go down to that and have a look at the result. Beside the "Preview" button is the "submit" button. When you have finished working with the edit, press this and your blog will be up and ready for all to see. You can always go back in to the edit screen again and edit it further - change the location of pics etc, or add or remove them. If you want to insert a video it has to be already uploaded to "Youtube" or "Vimeo", but the procedure from there is self explanatory once you open the "embed video" window in the "edit blog" screen
Good luck
