Going to Wuruma dam in a weeks time. Can anyone tell me if we can take a small caravan reasonably close to the water and leave the boat in the water? Or should I take the portable trailer and launch and recover each day? Is there potable water available on site? cheers and thanks in advance.

Hi petengail

Have a look at the link. Camping permitted at the dam but only in designated places. Enjoy your stay.

Cheers

Sunwater has it at 16% capacity as of 2/12/2010. Might be dodging the dead trees and logs at that level

Sounds like it is at record levels LOL Normally sits at 2% for the last 15 years IIRC. ;)

G’day petengail,
No problem with a van of any size. There’s plenty of room and you can camp right on the water, though, you would probably prefer to have it on the trailer and camp a bit further away with the shade of the trees.
Myles.

Thanks Myles - I will probably camp in the shade and just leave the boat in the water. Thanks for the pics too. BTW - I sold lotto tickets for 10 years and only sold one winner lol

Yep… I’ll keep buying and consider it a donation to someone else’s fortune.
P.S. Photos were taken in July this year.

Further…. It’s a fair distance from the water to the shade and it’s likely that the boat wouldn’t be visible on the water line from your camp. The photos are a bit misleading. There were only three other campers when we were there so the likelihood of it being stolen would be slim. Maybe wouldn’t leave tackle box and rods in it. I liked the area…. Pretty rugged except for some amenities.
Myles.

UPDATE:

Just read that the dam is now 100% full for the first time in 40 years.

Not bad 16% to 100% is less than 30 days

Paradise Dam is at 138% with the flood gates open.

Some more info here. Looking to head there in late Jan as well. Fish should now be in the trees :)
