Hi All,
I'm going to add a 2nd spare tyre/wheel to the truck for remote trips. Tyre is easy but where do I buy an after market alloy rim that is exactly the same as the 16x7 on the Landcruiser GXL 79series.

Or do I need to contact toyota?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex
I got my second spare from Bridgestone Tyres. The 16x7 speedy alloys are an exact copy of the orginal. The cost was $165 for a rim.
Cheers

Hi Alex,
Does it have the same load rating as the genuine wheel?...if so that is a fantastic price.

Hi Tony
The load rating stamped on the speedy alloys is 1400 kgs,I have also put them on my camper trailer with no problems travelling over 37,000 kms in the past 12 months.

I heard last week that the 5 stud Speedy Territory mag has been withdrawn - I think Toyota got upset with having their wheel copied. So might have to phone around to see if anyone still has stock.

I think they also take the standard wheel nuts and not the factory alloy nuts.

the factory mag costs $1000 each over the counter.

It is best to get the second spare with a new vehicle as prices are more negotiable then. That's what I did.

Later I thought two more wheels would be good so I got a quote from the Toyota dealer of $1,045 each. I did not place an order!

Buying from a wrecker or even buying a suitable written off vehicle at auction as a source of parts may be a possibility.

I think speedy wheels supply to toyota. They have the 17" prado rim and the ones you are chasing with the higher load rating.

Is anyone running 285x75R16 on the Speedy 7" rims?

As well as Speedy, Allied Wheels have Toyota look-a-likes in both 16x7 and 16x8.

http://www.alliedwheels.com.au/?page_id=62&page_number=3

Savvana Silver

* Size: 16×7
* PCD: 5/114.3 or 6 /139.7
* Offset: +30 or +25 mm
* Borehole: 73.1 or 110.5 mm

* Size: 16×8
* PCD: 6/139.7 or 5/150
* Offset: -5
* Borehole: 110.5

They use different wheel nuts to the standard Toyota alloys. The wheel nuts come with the rim.It's not that big a deal to carry the extra wheel nuts compared to the prices Toyota charge for a factory rim.

I use the 16x8 with 285/75R16 tyres, but plenty of others have had those same tyres fitted to 16x7 rims (even if not strictly supposed to - most 285/75R16 tyres are supposed to have a 7.5" minimum rim width).

Thanks John,
You make a good point. I never measured myself but have been told the Toyota original 7" rims actually measure closer to 7.5". I have run 285x75 STT's on them for 12 months without a problem.

If I knew the Speedy or Allied wheels were not narrower in 7" that would be great. Not keen on putting an 8" into the mix with others being 7".

The offset is also something else I'd need to consider...
