got the bug
My 2008 CRD patrol ute since new has had a lock out issue with 3rd & 4th gear whenever it gets hot, i.e I can drive 200 or 300km no problem then if I pull up for fuel or whatever when I start off again I cannot get 3rd or 4th gear at all, then after a few minutes of trying & cursing a lot, it works again for a short time but whilst hot the issue appears on & off at any time I change down gears. Once let cool overnight it is back to normal again until I drive distance.
Has anyone else had this issue & if so a fix would be very much appreciated as Nissan dont want to know, they have said it is fine & normal for the patrol boxes to be "notchy", I dont call this notchy it's outright dangerous....
Any help or hints would be great.

Hi, since my Toyota had a 40000 service, the gearshift has been very "notchy", very difficult to change slickly into 2nd when cold. I believe that if they have put a "multigrade" oil in the box, it affects the friction of the synchro cones. ergo shift becomes erratic. Perhaps a drain and refill with the right specification oil might help.
Could be worth a try for your problem, what else can be affected by heat?
Anyone else any ideas?

Get it nice and hot and ask for the workshop foreman to go for a drive ( with you in the passengers
seat ) and see what he says to your face...
They usually aren't in a position to properly diagnose things unless it's playing up while they actually test drive it..
If the dealer still refuses to do anything, go higher !!

Hello GTB
I drive a 2009 Patrol c/chassis for work, have driven a couple of the earlier 3lt's as
well for the same reason (2007 and 2008) and I have NEVER felt the the gearshift in any of them was as you describe - something wrong mate. As suggested, get it nice and hot and then get the service manager to drive with you riding shotgun.
Good luck with it.
Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys & yes the problem with Nissan is unless I can get it to them faulting they dont want to know. I have tried the long drive trick & taken it to a dealership in
Perth as we live 4 hours drive from there & on arrival was told they could not look at it & could book me in for a weeks time......On making that booking & going up there the next week, it was a cool weather day & the fault did not show up, 8 hour drive round trip & dealership says no issue whats my problem !! Coincidently on the way home from the dealer & 3 hours out of
Perth, due to the amount of run time I guess I had issues again.... no 3rd or 4th gear....Very frustrating...
I have queried the change oil & like the redline products although expensive seem to work however Nissan state if I change it then warranty is void & they will only use the same oil as is currently in it & have offered to change it for me for a mere $250 !! I dont feel this is warranted so back to square one...
I guess I just have to keep doing the
Perth trip until it faults at the right time & go from there....

Try making an appointment for them to take it for a drive.
They cant get out of it then I would think.
