Currently at Point Sampson WA on an extended holiday and will be travelling south down the coast. Looking for free campsites along the coast. Am self reliant re water, power etc and have a van and 4WD.

Would appreciate any assistance with regard to free or low cost places to stay.

Many thanks

Bruce

Hi Bruce

Quite a few campsites coming up for you : Cleaverville (between Roebourne & Karratha; The Forty Mile (about 70km south of Karratha); Ashburton River (about 30 km from Onslow) and the Blow Holes (north of Carnarvon) plus camp sites along the west side of the cape and south of Exmouth. There is also a campsite at the mouth of the Fortescue River but someone else may be able to give you directions as I haven't been there.

Cheers

John

Hi Bruce

We rely on publications such as the Jan Holland Priceless series for WA, but have not needed to camp along the coast. There are a few glorious spots overlooking the ocean along the road in to Denham, but you have to get permission (probably from DEC). They used to be free and still may be, but are very limited. There are a couple of free camps along the beach to the South of Carnarvon listed in Camps Australia Wide. There is an overnighter along the river near the Murchison River Bridge a little way north of the turn off to Kalbarri and is the one we overnighted at a couple of years ago on our way north. This is a popular stop with a pit toilet and dump point provided by WA Main Roads. With a loop of old road to access it, the area is reasonably quiet at night. Coronation Beach just north of Geraldton is free or low cost. Inland from Geraldton is Ellendale Pool.

G'day BCA, when you get 80 klms south of Perth, try the free caravanning stopover in Pinjarra. Its a nice grassed area with a few shade trees close to all amenities which include a dump point. It is sandwiched between Williams Rd and The Perth/ Bunbury Railway Line but a comfortable walking distance across a swing bridge over the Murray River to the town centre.
