Rodeo stalling

I have a TF Rodeo with a 3Lt diesel motor. This is the model that was out for about 18 months before the RA came out. I'm lead to believe that it's the same engine as the early RA Rodeos. Every now and then it stalls a couple of seconds after start up. It used to do this every couple of weeks but now it does it every couple of days. When it stalls I have to turn the key off, wait a couple of seconds and then it will start ok and run ok until the next time it stalls. I got it checked for an error code but none was recorded so the mechanic and I are at a loss as to what the problem is. Has any body experienced this problem in a 3Lt Rodeo before?

Hi Steve, I have an RA diesel and until now not heard of this one. It does sound like an electronic problem, have you posted on this forum, it has been a great source of information for me.

Have a 12 month old Colorado that does the same thing and no one can work out why, not the holden dealer or a diesel specialist, doesn't show any codes.

Cheers Ross.

Sounds like a leaking injector pump... internal leak. Had the same on a customers Delica. They didn't want to spend the dollars to fix it so I fitted an inline electric fuel pump set to prime at key on and run for a few minutes there after. Works good but is only a temp. messure. The electric pump won't be able to keep pressue required as the injector pump futher deteriorates.

Fab....my guess.

I have a 97 2.8td 4x4 Rodeo and from 91- 2002 my family have had at least 6-7 of various years and we have had 3 or 4 that started to starve for fuel at start up and while running especially when the tank is low.

A facet type fuel pump has cured every one of them and they in my case have covered 269,000 kms with it fitted comes on and off with the key.

There is a 2005 one here with the same symptoms and when I get time I will fit my electric pump to it to attempt to cure an ongoing lack of power and surging problem that has cost the owner over $1000.00 with the dealer and continues to occur.

cheers

Hi Steve,
This may or may not help!
I have an old 60 series Toy and it sometimes cuts out like you say and this is because of the sensor that detects oil pressure. If the oil pressure doesn't come up quickley enough due to low revs or a it's long time since last start it automatically shuts down to avoid damage.
Perhaps yours has this fitted as well.
Hope this helps'\Cheers

You may fnd it is the ignition key is worn, if you have a spare that hasn't been used try it for a week or so to see how it goes. I'm lead to believe the imobiliser works off the key and when they wear you get the problem you are having.
