Been give a Nuvi 1490T, and for the life of me I cannot load on Mapsource program.

Error massage, "no previous version".....

Ok I am no mug when it comes to installing stuff on computers.....
Everything is registered, and I have also got Aus & NZ Topo, in the Nuvi as well...Wow that is good.

But do you think I can get the "puter" to talk to the Nuvi

Can someone help me there ...

Much appreciated

Cheers
Bucky

What we need to know is....
where did the unit come from.
what type of Mapsource program your trying to upload into it.
If it's Garmin Topo then load it onto an SD card.

If you connect it to the PC and wait the PC should recognise after a few seconds

Doug

The unit was a gift from my young fella.
He lives in Perth.
He updated to a newer one, and I got this one ..with current maps.

It is fully registered.

It's just mapsource, that I cannot load up..
But I will try Notso's method..

Keeping in mind that I have a fully installable disk of a very old Mapsource, I might get it back from a work collegue, that I gave it to, and then update it that way

Garmin Topo and City Streets are already loaded on a mini Sd card

Not sure what your trying to do but if it's trying to get the maps from the unit onto the PC....won't work.

The error message makes it sound like you have an update version of Mapsource, not the full install?

"If you have a device that has preloaded maps, and you have not purchased additional maps on DVD/CD, then you do not have MapSource. MapSource does not come with the purchase of a map download or a map on microSD™/SD™ card. It is only included with the purchase of a Garmin map on DVD/CD."

Bazooka

You would be 100% correct !

But I have a way, just hope I can get back my old version of the installable one

Will know in 2 days, when I get it back..
Nothing else seems to work ( yet )

What Mapsource needs to find is the Install directory and a particular exe file, there are a couple of ways to do this and they are described on the link I added.

Extract for the site.

Here is an easy way to get Mapsource for free and legit. Here are 3 different ways to do it.

1. Download MapSource software updater from Garmin .

2. Extract the contents of MapSource_####.exe (such as MapSource_6156.exe) download using 7 Zip .

3. From the extracted files, run MAIN.msi or MSMAIN.msi.

4. Then, run Setup.exe.

Note: The sequence to execute Main.msi and then Setup.exe is important to avoid “Previous MapSource not found!” error.

5. Garmin MapSource now installed.

OR

1. Create a folder named Garmin on local C: drive.

2. Inside the C:\Garmin folder, create or rename a file as MapSource.exe.

3. Install the MapSouce by running downloaded MapSource installation executable, MapSoruce_####.exe (such as MapSource_6156.exe).

4. Garmin MapSource now installed

OR

1. First install the trainings center software.
http://www8.garmin.com/support/coll...ct=999-99999-04

2. This installs a basemap in the mapsource directory, now that the directory is there install the mapsource update http://www8.garmin.com/support/down...ails.jsp?id=209.

3. Garmin MapSource now installed
