Hey y'all.
I'm moving from the NSW Central Coast to
Broome over the Chrissy break. Gotta go via south Vic for personal reasons (so I'm going up the guts) but I just need to know if i'll be able to get through the top bit. I hear it's been a bit wet.
Any considered advice would be most appreciated as I've never even been up that way. I'm a newbie with a vague idea and a 'cruiser that I'd rather not have to use...

Stick to the black top it goes all the way now. The only time you may have problems if they have a big storm some where or a Cyclone. Just got to keep your eye on the weather, happy travels.

Agree with Matt...save the adventures for a more appripriate time. If you break somthing early, you still have a long way to go, and spare parts and service is hard to come by over the holiday period.
Safe travels and enjoy your new life in
Broome (lucky bugger...grrrrr) :)
Fab.

you are gunna have to go up to
Katherine and turn left onto the Vic hwy, you may get stuck at various crossing between
Katherine and
Broome with heavy rains, the Vic river can cut the hwy as can some crossings out of Kunanurra , just keep tabs on the weather but it takes a fair bit of rain to get to that stage and mostly starts mid Jan so you should be fine, forget the dirt/gravel roads and stick to the tar ......
When you hear of "heavy" rains at this time of the year (up north) it is far from cutting the major hwys, the likes of the Vic river and others will rise up to 15-20M and that takes a shtload of rain and mostly associated with the cyclones and lows that follow after, no cyclones "yet" but there will be ......

Hi there,
Two
places that could have stopped you for a while between
Katherine and
Broome were the Vic river at
Victoria River road House and Fletcher
Creek (south of
Halls Creek.)
The Vic now has a new high level bridge and Fletcher
Creek has a new bridge also.
The WA main roads department has been pretty active in providing/upgrading the river crossings.

we lived near there when the bridge was built and in the first year it was closed due to flooding, the main problem is that the bridge is nice and high but surrounding crossings are still low and they flood and cut the hwy, there is a lot of work still going on but a LONG way to go yet ....

Cheers all for the friendly advice, no real surprises but it's good to hear from some critters in the know. I'll let you all know how I get on.
Thanks again.
