Not talking about
grey nomads, by the way. About 10 years ago we were heading to
Alice Springs from
Adelaide and were told of a place just before there where you can look for fossils. I remember crossing a bridge and the site being on the right hand side (then again, I think I remember lots of things and I am often wrong!). It was an interesting site but now cannot find reference to it. Can anyone help?
Cheers,
Mark

Hi
Silkwood,
Dont know of any fossil sites around Alice but even if I did I would be VERY reluctant to provide the exact location.
A few years ago we were staying in
Chillagoe and we were kindly provided with directions to fossil sites in the area. We did find them but so had others wielding hammers who had managed to do a great deal of damage in their attempt to souvenir their very own fossil. Wrecked the sites and spoiled it for those of us who would like to see and photograph only.
Not saying that about you of course, but Im aware that there are others about who are not inclined to be responsible in such matters.
Cheers,
Val

Damn! I've just been out and bought a new hammer too! Actually, good point. We first learned about the place from my partner's brother, who used to teach in Alice. Unfortunately he's overseas right now.
I'll contact him fro more detail. Thanks for the reply,
Cheers,
Mark

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not keen on putting my email on an open site. Much appreciated, though.
Cheers,
Mark
