Hi can anybody on the forum recommend a good place to get my patrol serviced in Cairns. I want to make sure the old girl is sound after the big drive over from WA and is as good as it can be before i head to the cape.
Cheers

Hi Toby, i don't know when you are going but mate the roads up the Cape will be at the point of being closed in the next few weeks with the onset of the wet season.About your service don't get it done in Cairns unless you have extra folding stuff, the best thing to do is go up to Merreba 60 kms west and get someone to give you a quote or before you get that far ring in advance and book . If you get a good service and check up before you go it will not cost you all that much when you are on the road. We travel each year to the Veterans Retreat on Kalpowar Station just near Lakefield National Park and havn't had a problem yet and have been going for 9 years. Started with 1. HJ 60 L/Cruiser 2. 78 troopie 3.RA Rodeo and now HZJ 79 T.D. and i would not swap that for the world.

Hi Toby R

We had to replace our injector pump in our GQ Patrol on our trip to the Cape
in 2008 we were at Mareeba at the time and went to AGSERV NQ in Mareeba
they were recommended to us by locals they had the car for 3 days and did
a full check, changed filters, coolant, seals etc cost us $1594.57, we were
very happy with the service as they fitted us in straight away so we could
continue on with the trip. We stayed at Walkerman Central for the 3 days
very impressed with there as well.

Cheers

Matt & Julie

Hi Matt & Julie

Mareeba sounds like a winner I've been looking on the internet for mechanics and accommodation in that area but you can't beat first hand knowledge so thanks for the tips.

Cheers Toby.

I had my patrol serviced at the Nissan dealer in Cairns. Mind you earlier when I had trouble with a manifold gasket in the middle of the Qld outback and phoned Nissan both at atherton and Cairns neither wanted to know me and Cairns eventually told me they would have a "driveway look" at it 3 weeks ahead of time.......

Hi Toby,

I have had my Prado serviced over the past few years at Rick's Automotive. It is a 'one guy workshop' and Gowan, the qualified mechanic, is really good and I highly recommend his workmanship and service.

I haven't used Cape York Automotive but they also carry a good reputation with servicing 4wd's -

Hope this helps,

Cape York Automotive, in Cairns around the corner from TJM, did all of our servicing on the Patrol when we lived in Cairns. Great service and attention to detail.

Cairns coconut village resort isn't too far... little bit exy but very nice van park. We go there for a weekend every now and then just for the water park.

I can't reccomend anyone but I can say I wouldn't use Repco it cairns. We had our swivel hubs done there and they replaced the front diff breather hose for me. When I checked the diff breather hose it was just haging in mid air. It was so tight any movement in the axle pulled it off. I had to replace it myself. When we got to Elim beach I discovered the dust cover missing of the centre of the axle. They had forgot to put the circlip back in. Had to go back to Cook town to get it fixed. Called back in on the way down and told them, they couldn't care less.

G'day Toby,

I get my vehicles done at Cairns Diesel Service on Scott St.

Costs me roughly the same as if I were doing it myself, and I don't have to worry about getting rid of the used oil. They are also very particular about their customer service and will discuss with you want/need done prior to doing the job.

They are also Denso agents, and have a "clean room" for injector pump work.

No affiliation, just a happy customer.

G'day Toby,
Sorry for the late reply, I was out at work and just got back into town.

As previously mentioned, Cairn Cocnut village would be about the closest to Scott St.

Regards
Stu
