Has anyone on the
forum had experience with insurance and airbag lights.
We had our VX Commodore in for repairs (small rear impact - with a tree!) and when we went to pick up the vehicle after repairs, the airbag light was on (some two weeks later).
The insurance looks like it's not going to cover it. Our view is that we weren't even in possession of the car, and also the light certainly wasn't on when we took the car to the repairers.
Would be interested to know if we have a case against the insurance company, if they decide not to cover it.

Was the vehicle hit by a falling tree.? Your post isn't that clear? Anyhow the airbag light could be a few things such as a faulty clockspring. Clockspring failures are quite common amongst all sorts of vehicles. Clocksprings are the also known as a spiral cable, goes down the steering column. I would be simply advising the insurance company you are not satisifed with the repairs, you collected the vehicle and the light was on? put it back on them

No, the vehicle was inadvertently backed into a tree...not a big impact, just a bit of a crumple really.

Put it back on the insurance company to complete the repairs to your satisfaction.

it might be a simple case of having the airbag light reset by your local dealer, panel shops will disconnet the battery when working on cars, it's probably come on as a result of this.

Does your car have
seat belt pre-tensioners? If so, these may have triggered during the collision. I had a similar issue and it turned out to be the
seat belt pre tensioners.

We had our VX stored for two years without a battery and the airbag light didnt come on when I replaced the battery.
The alarm did its thing for a minute or two though.

I know Honda air bag lights come on if the battery drops below 9.5 volts & requires the computer to be reset.

air bags and pre tensioners are designed to activate in a frontal impact .
nothing to my knowledge activates in reverse . its probably a simple case of having the light reset . you only have to cycle the ignition with one of the underseat
plugs not connected an the light will come on .
maybe a coinsedance .

Hi
Find out if the seats were removed during repairs if so it will only need the DTC'S cleared with a scan tool from your local dealer.
Good luck.

Although the other threads may have covered most of your issues.
I had a recent experience with a bingle where a car drove into the passenger side of the vehicle and damaged the bull bar. The repairer ripped off the bar and while waiting for a replacement put the standard bumper back on.
When the Bull bar was refitted my ABS and handbrake light was on.
The auto electrician (aledged) shorted out the electrics and blew the ABS ECU and caused other electrical issues took 3 weeks to get fixed....
So was any power, lights etc touched?

Not sure what they would have done as far as electrical etc is concerned, but thanks to everyone for all this info....we are gathering it all and will then have a case to present, and be better informed to argue our case.
Cheers

If the ignition is switched on while ANY airbag wiring is unplugged, the Airbag Warning light will come.
Even if the wiring is restored, the light will not go out, even if you leave the battery disconnected for hours. Only the dealer's computer can reset it.
