Good afternoon forumites
i am just after some suggestions or feedback regarding getting some life back into my canvas camper trailer.
We have been using it for the last 9 months straight and will have another 12 months to go sleeping in it.
It is navy blue and
grey. The sun, salt air, wind and general use has taken its toll and now the canvas is starting to look a bit old and faded
We have travelled lots of dusty roads and have not been able to wash it down as often as we would have liked due to lack of rain and availability of
water and now has stained, especially around the window flaps as leaves etc get caught in there when setup and when it does rain or we get a heavy dew it turns the leaves, sap, dirt etc into a soup.
It doesnt leak at all and i have searched through the
forum as much as i could but could only find advice on either washing it or re-sealing it.
I would like to know if there are any sprays or paint on solvents that can bring the colour back. We would love to give it a good scrub with detergent to brighten it up again but have been told it wrecks the sealant.
And maybe if we get it spruiked up a bit my neighbours in the caravan parks with their big fancy jayco sterlings and 5th wheelers will talk to me instead of giving me the "look" as if to ask " are you serious? isnt there anywhere else you can go? your making the place look messy" lol- trust me ive come across them!!!!
Maybe it sounds a bit odd, but i would like to try to keep it looking newish for as long as possible. but i guess every fade, stain or blemish shows signs of
well used and enjoyed camper trailer.
Im pretty sure there are others out there that would be iterested to know as
well.
thanks for any advice!

Hi Doey,
There is a link
here to an archived thread that might help.

Hi Val
thanks for the point in the right direction. Thats a great thread. Would have made a great article for exploreoz if the info was collated.
Some great tips in there. But unfortunately it pretty much confirms that im stuck with a faded and mildly stained camper. Unless i scrub it to buggery then re-seal it.
Enjoy the rest of your day!

Hi Doey,
Take heart - that faded and
well worn canvas look is really a badge of honour among experienced travellers! I know what you mean about "the look" - we certainly get that often enough with our home made rig. But, hey, its been there and done that and stood the test of time and distance and circumstance. What the givers of the looks don't seem to understand is that we can go where the caravans mostly cant and see all those wonderful things off the beaten track.
Cheers,
Val
