Hi There.

New on the forum.

We (the wife and I) are planning on taking some friends camping for the first time in Australia over christmas.

We have been camping alone before, but never with 3 kids (age 2 - 10ish) and 7 inexperienced adults on tow

Where would you recommend going for a long weekend?

We'll be travelling in a Grand Vitara (mine, modified a lot) and a stock hilux and a stock Honda CRV. Tent camping, plus reasonably equipped for bush camp.

I was thinking mt buller or stirling, what do you guys recon would be a good idea for them to get a taste?

We're home in southeast Melbourne and 4 days to spare.

Sheepyard Flat is a nice place and you can access The Bluff from there easily in those vehicles too. Thats a great area and your choices are great also.

Gday
Now come on Bonz, why didn't you send him to Huggets crossing, much closer and it has a long drop. Good river to swim in . There is plenty of roads to explor and very nice views .
Don't you remember being there??

I did think about Sheepyards Flat, we went there alone last year.

I really enjoyed going further into the hills on Howqua road (or whatever its called) 16 Mile jeep track is nice and fun to drive, but I'm not sure the CRV can do it, I remember there was a river crossing followed by some nasty crushed rock that a road tire car would have some trouble getting over without punctures..

How's the bush up there at the moment, could we get away lawfully with a campfire ?

Gday DKG
Try Lake Glenmaggi or Licola. There is plenty to see and lots of good roads to drive. There is also a caravan park in Licola phone 03 51488786 to bok in.
Murray
I have been there and have no association with the park. Its just a good area to explor in any vehicle.
Are you from Rawdon Hill area?

Base camp on the Goulburn river above Jameieson, day drive up to Woods point, Mt Terrible or Mitchells Flat. With the continuing rain you will need to be careful anywhere in the Vic High Country with trees down, rivers up & alot of track closures.
Cheers Craig.........
