Does anyone have any knowledge of Kipor 2.6kva generators. There seems to be a huge price difference between Kipor, Honda and Yamaha. Everyone we've spoken to says Kipor has the same motor as Honda but put in a plastic case. Can someone help.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say they are a “Honda” in different livery. They are, like the Honda, a 4 stroke digital inverter generator though so they are quiet and of reasonable quality. I’ve owned the 2KVA Kipor (Yellow model, not the blue ones) since 2006. I’ve used it infrequently and have had no issues with it.

I would say that the Honda and Yamaha are of much better quality and you’re paying for that.

Heres a link to a search of the forum. There are countless posts about the cheaper generators.

Hi KingAnn, just bought one last week, it was unused in the box when I got it S/H. Just filled the tank, oil and started it to test it. They recommend running them in on half load so I loaded it with a 1000w heater, it ran for about 3.5 hours on Eco throttle at that constant load. Not as good as the book says. A bit noisier but it is bigger than the 2Kv Honda or Yamaha.
My biggest problem will be the weight, 26kg dry weight but if it could be mounted so that I didn't have to lift it in-out of the storage area of our new van, this would probably not be an issue.
Depends upon what you want to run. I thought that this one would run the Air-Con when we are off site in summer. Without considering this, a smaller model could do anything else.
Paid the right price so it was a god buy, let you know if we have any other issues.
Cheers,

A few of your comments here are misleading because you are comparing a 2.6KVA generator vs a 2.0kva. Noisier than a 2KV Honda and heavier, that is not quite true. The Kipor 2.6 puts out more KW's than the Honda and they are both almost identical noise wise. The extra 600 watts for the Kipor is a huge advantage for running various appliances and is around 5KG heavier than the 2KVA Honda but what do you expect for a 2.6KVA? They are with 1DB noise of each other.

TerraFirma, sorry to be misleading but I did say it was bigger than a 2Kv Honda/Yamaha, really meant bigger output. As for the noise, on paper it might be only 1Db difference but in real life, does sound a bit noisier. Maybe when I can run it somewhere away from the sheds it won't be noticeably different.
The extra 5kg weight might well be worth it when the other half wants the A/C on as we can be sure that the start-up load will be handled OK by the Kipor. The reason that I bought Kipor was because of the apparent quality compared with price. Haven't heard too much bad about the Kipor. It won't shut down when the ambient temperature gets to 40 either as I am led to believe, the Honda might.

It's a good product however whilst the engine maybe Honda derived, perhaps and old design, the rest of the product is not. I have 2 Kipors and they have been good, the rubber feet broke on 1 unit, but due to rough handling. I wiould be happy to recommend them. They are also serviceable easily.

Have had the 2.6 for a couple of yrs now the only prob we had was sometimes it wouldn't start.the prob was the cut off switch was stuck in the off position, quick clean and haven't had a prob since.
We brought it so we could run a/c.
Price was big consideration was 1/2 the price of Honda.
Would well and truly recommend them.
Cheers
