Roy Watkins, that's a blast from the past.

I used to religiously follow his outback road condition reports...

Looking for adventure.

Hi John

We probably don't. This was formed by persons unhappy with the VKE 237 network. Why I have no idea.
As I see it with the increasing upgrades and services now available in HF radio, to put another organization into the fro , then you would expect them to be able to offer the same services as their counterparts.

Having said that then we ,the traveller , can only benefit from a larger base of services from which to choose.

How long this new group continues or what level of service it can provide remains to be seen.

Based in W.A. may be a bonus for desert travellers as VKS can at times be hard to receive.

We will have to wait and see what happens.

Re Tez's comment above - Roy is on committee with VKE237 - still skedding for them probably - if 'unhappiness' is the motivation, it might lay elsewhere :-o).... ?

Roy is no longer a member of VKE237 and therefore not on the committee. The base at Albany is no longer manned but is still operating for TIC services (telephone interconnect).
VKE237 has been looking at opening another manned base and after getting technical advice has chosen Alice Springs as giving the best Oz wide coverage.
Marble Bar was looked at but suffers too much interference from Indonesian fishermen on high powered HF sets.

Noted Rob (6678) - thank you - I'll go back and have a good read of VKE's last newsletter. A quick scan on my part is obviously not enough :-o).

It's called the HFOZ HF Radio Network. It doesn't have "Skeds", you supply the people you want to know where you are with a password and they can log on to HFOZ's web site at any time to see where you last logged your position. It is totally automated and relies on the user to keep their position current. more information can be gathered here. http://www.hfoz.com.au/

I think HFoZ is different.

It is VLE825 and run by Doug Taylor in the East and Terry Clinch in Perth.
