Hi all
Currently researching side awnings to attach to me roof rack on the 4wd. Need something that me partner can easily/quickly erect on her own. Looking into the TIGERZ 2.5 x2m side awning as one option. Relativly cheap at around $300. any suggestions or other brands etc appreciated

Hi Dave
All those mass produced imported awnings are fairly flimsy. On one of my work utes I put an ARB awning and the material does't keep much heat off. Just had a new one made for my touring vehicle and had Polaris Innovations make it. Great quality and just as easy to put up and down, canvas top, Australian made with a 3 year warranty. Gunya use to be another good quality awning but have stopped production.
The polaris will be more expensive but is 100% quality.
Polaris are in
Brisbane but deliver Aust wide. www.polarisinnovations.com.au
No association etc just a happy customer.
Cheers Teza

I second Teza’s comment. Polaris makes a very good awning which can be ordered with both front and side zips to accommodate walls. The prices are also very competitive.
Sometime after purchasing the awning, they also made a draught skirt which can be used beneath the car or camper van. Testimonials will also support the product.
No affiliation.
Cheers

I also have a polaris awning and am happy with it. More expensive, yes, but you can also choose the size you would like. The mass-produced ones are a little small, in my opinion.

Are you interested in making your own? A much stronger and more practical design is easy to make for about $300. If you are interested in going this way, contact me.

Hi Fewster
By the sounds of things most of the designs are relativelt flimsy and pricy once you get something half decent.
Definetly intrested in going this way. Look forward to your responce.
thanks for the reply

Supa Peg make an excellent, strong awning, it is a bit more than $300.00 but
well worth the difference. They also make a version of the Fox Wing with a much stronger corner pivot point.

I've got an ARB awning - for the price it's a beauty. It's easy to erect (I've attached 2 permanent guy ropes to make it all easier), keeps the sun off and doesn't need any extra poles or ropes, just a couple of pegs & a hammer. On my recent trip in NT for 3 months it only got used a few times so couldn't justify spending double (?) the money on another brand.
Hope this helps
Cheers

I purchased a Foxwing Awning. You have the choice of Right or Left hand side fitting. See photo. You can get side panels that zip onto any of the sides.
Bought it from ARB $760. on special. Google Foxwing for a video of set up.

I too have an ARB awning - but any of the ~$300 ones are probably out of the same factory. One of the best things I have bought, not actually used that often, but when it is, its a godsend.
While a self retracting awning would be great, cannot justify the cost, especially as the ARB one is so easy to use.

I have a gunyah awning, solid canvas and easy to erect etc, got it secondhand from a gem of a guy. Also sold me the mounting!
I would also look at a Ironman awning, its light and mass produced but does the job too and thats what I'd have got if I didnt get the Gunyah. Their after sales ervice is also second to none.
