Morning all, We are heading to QLD after Christmas with the Camper Trailer and want to stay at a couple of national Parks on the way up from Melbourne. We'll can go either the Newell or New England, our final destination is Ipswich. Where do you recommend?

Cheers,

Glenn

On the Newell - the Warrumbungles is a great place to camp - are you camping in Ipswich ? Staying at the showgrounds?
Come out and have a look at the Scenic Rim - our Lake Moogerah is full to the brim - overflowed last week - first time in 19 years - Whole area around Boonah is terrific - camping at Moogerah - Maroon - The Gorge, Flannagans, Bigriggen, and showgrounds Boonah and Kalbar
Take care on the road

Hi Julie,

We've done the Bungles. Not camping in Ippy staying with friends. Just looking for a couple of places to camp overnight on the way up really. Some nice quiet (ha ha ) place to pop into.

A great place to drop into is Coolah Tops (Dubbo - Dunedoo - Coolah).
A great route from there is to travel in between the New England and Newell highways. Coolah - Gunnedah - Manilla - Barraba - Bingara - Warailda - Texas - Inglewood - Leyburn - Clifton - Gatton - Ipswich (bitumen all the way without a lot of truck traffic)

Can overnight on the river at Bingara (5km east) or at Texas on the river

Enjoy which ever route you choose

Alan

Apart from what is already mentioned above, Girraween NP 40-50km north of Tenterfield then continue up NE Highway, or NE of Tenterfield to Boonoo Boonoo and Bald Rock NP, then up the windy but picturesque Mt Lindsay Highway.

Alternatively if going up via Barraba- Bingara, go onto Severn River (Walimbal NP or something like that) north of Inverell, then onto Texas or into Tenterfield.

Hi Glen,
You can camp for free in a number of NSW State Forests. There is a list here

Cheers,
