The old troopy needs priming if I don't use it for a week or so!

G'day all

My son tried to start the troopy this afternoon and it wouldn't start until I gave him instructions about how to prime it, what the two fuel filters look like and where they were and where and how to use the primer.

Its a 1995 75 series 1HZ.

This problem occurs every time I don't use it for about 4 days or more, and I've had the problem for 5 yrs.

Is there a valve or something that is supposed to stop the fuel from draining back to the tank, or do I have a minute leak that is letting air in?

The hand pump has a return valve that is prone to fail, I had this problem once I got a second hand one for about $80 from a 4WD wreckers, this fixed the problem, then I sold the car.

Boo Boo,

Your fuel filter sucks.

Air is getting into the filter, and because you have had the problem for 5 years and I would assume that you have changed the filter, it would have to be in the primer or as stated above in the non return valve.

I had the same problem (same model and year too) It was the fuel line at the pump end had split and the old finger clamp had also lost it tension.
It should be full of fuel all ther time.

Hi Boo Boo
It can also be the flexible pipe from the injector over flow, as one comment was passed that air is getting in and you are only having trouble starting when it has'nt ran for a while, if you had a leak on the suction side you would have trouble all the time if it was on the pressure side you would have a mess, the over flow from the injectors is gravity to very pressure, and when sitting for a bit it lets air in
