First of all can I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.
Looking back on it I don’t know if to hide in shame or celebrate the occasional things that went right.
Certainly the former included being bogged to the axels, leaving bullets at home, no sleeping bag and a bit of a bashing.
On the more positive side of it, I’ve met a lot of characters, particularly at the Willows Gem Fields, and a local bloke in
Charleville who wanted to do a bit of pig shooting.
It seems to me. If you get off the normal track, things become more interesting and that’s what you remember at the end of the day.
Then we come to the characters on this site who give it real value with their colourful posts. Mick O for example wouldn’t know a rock from a hard place, but he gets by. LOL
There are also blokes and ladies from different areas in Australia that add to the diversity, and I think that's the way it should be within the realm of things.
Anyway, have a good one.
Cheers

I asked Oprah!
A good year of travel by any stretch of the imagination. Some good country with some great people and a few more met along the way. It's the silly season again so please take care and be safe one and all and enjoy the festive season.

Good call bluefly. The diversity of location, knowledge, experience and opinions makes for a good comeraderie that grows with this site.
As the kids wind up their school year, and many of you are heading off for your Xmas break, please travel safely, enjoy the time with your loved ones, and make sure you're all back for an even better year in 2011.
Let's wish David & Michelle and all the Team behind the scenes here, a great xmas and new year also...without them, we would never have "met!" the characters we have.
Merry Xmas all, and a very happy and healthy 2011. See you at
Silverton :-)
Fred

Hi Fred
Why on Earth would you go to
Silverton?
Before that there's a place called the
Daydream Mine off to your right (it’s been a long time).
On the veranda was an old horse who took kindly to a pat and the occasional feed. Following on from that was the
mine.
Interesting to say the least, and a throwback to old times if your game.
Have a good one.
Cheers

My God you’re all going to die!
Once you get the helmets on, the battery pack and the light, the World will come to an end.
Once you get into the inners, the guide will show you all these shafts where, the blokes made a living from Dawn to Dusk with nothing more than a chandle light.
But it gets better. In a lower open area they’ll explain why the handler of a shiv’ lost his index finger to a hammer. Then they put the lights off to be replaced candles. That’s when you think ‘Jesus’ bloody Christ’.
Most of these blokes lasted to the ripe old age of 42.
Good point to start with, because it really explains the history of Australia in a very old fashion way and does justice to the hardship of the day. It should be a good trip for all the people.
LOL
Cheers
