A Tad light for the weight of the bonnet me thinks!
Changed the oil today, and while in the garage for a minute, i heard a great bang, the bonnet just decided to come down on its own accord!, lifted it up and down a few times and finally got it to stay up without it wanting to creep down. If you look at the size and weight of the bonnet, the leverage it has on those poor little struts, its one thing i think Toyo have stuffed up on..lol
A piece of 2x1 timber will do the job all day long, But its not a good look for the calibre of the vehicle...lol. Anyone else had probs here?
Cheers Axle

Hi Axle,
I had the same trouble recently with my 80ser. I had
mine replaced by a company that exchanges old for new, and even does the installation as a part of the cost.
I think the bonnet ones had to be new, as opposed to recharge units, but they were $90 the pair when I had them done. I then ended up in opposite trouble! Having to slam the bonnet shut because the struts were so strong.
I also had my boot struts done as
well, which were recharged. No troubles at all so far!
Where abouts are you? If you are in
Perth, I'll hunt for the receipt of the group that did
mine. It's not a difficult job to do.
Charles

Hi Axle,
You could resort to something a little less ingenious than a Defender strut
(At least they work all the time).
A suitable lenght of 25mm broom handle cut to size will solve your problem.
It should fit across the radiator frame without causing to many problems.
Bugger the look, you need to be sure that the bonnet lid doesn't come down and brain you, don't you.
Disco.

A short peice of conduit slid over the existing strut the same length as the intrenal part of the strut works. It falls under the lip of the strut cilinder when you lift the bonnet and to close the bonnet take the weight off and let it slide back over the main body of the cilinder. Cost virtually nothing also works on the rear aswell.
