G`day everybody,
I am looking to fit a snorkel that is not a standard one for my vehicle.
My 60 series L/C has an after market turbo fitted which puts the air filter inlet on the opposite side to normal.
The inlet to the Donaldson Filter is facing into the cavity area of the inner mudguard so I can`t see any difficulty cutting a hole through the outer guard so it will line up for a snorkel.
The trouble is, which snorkel?. It will have to be one with a fairly long reach along the Q/panel.
Now my question is , has anyone fitted a snorkel to the LHS of a 60 series and if so, which one or from what vehicle and any tips/traps ?.

My next move might be to go trial and error at the wreckers or an off road dealer looking for one that fits .

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or info.

Regards and Christmas Greetings to all.

Scrubby.

Scrubby,

A GQ Patrol fits on the passenger side of the vehicle and it should be long enough, but the problem is in the shape the guard and the possible angle of the " A " pillar.

Snorkels have a form that fits the shape of the guard so that it can fit tight against the vehicle and the 60 Series is different to the GQ.

The length of the snorkel should be OK but I am not sure about the difference in the angle of the " A " pillar.

I have seen snorkels made from stainless steel pipe similar to an exhaust pipe.

It would not be that hard to get an exhaust shop to mandrel bend a length of 3" stainless steel to length and angle to suit you needs. A couple of brackets weld on and I think you could have a custom snorkel at a reasonable price.

Hi Scrubby,
As Wayne mentioned about a custom one, here is a write up about doing one in Stainless Steel.
Stainless Steel Snorkel
It might give you some ideas.

My snorkel on our old 60 was just made from 3'' pipe with a Donaldson pre cleaner on top. Piping was easy and any exhaust shop can weld it for you. It was on the r/h side but just weld to suit.

I had the same issue on my 60 series, I have seen a production snorkel on a 60 series fitted to the LHS, it had the Airflow brand name on it. Unfortunately the owner wasn't around so I didn't get the details. I never did get around to fitting a snorkel to the 60 before I sold it...

One thing with the aircleaner is that they are not waterproof, in addition to the snorkel, you will need to run some duct tape around the end cap to keep the water out if you are going to operate these under water.
