For those that are thinking of going
camping on the
Murray river had better check with VIC & NSW PARKS AS They have closed a lot of
camping spots
all the low areas are flooded or covered with mud.
Was in local news a couple of days ago
MERRY XMAS

We live on the
Murray River , 8 kms west of
Echuca. Most
camping areas around here , if not closed, are very wet and boggy. The real issue though is mosquitos. The old locals reckon they are the worst that they have encountered. We would suggest that if you are considering
camping with
young children, that you seriously reconsider.
We have transferred our Xmas get together to
Melbourne as several of our very
young grandchildren would, in our opinion, be placed at too much risk.
Merry Xmas wherever you are.

Itisn't just the NSW and Vic sections of the Murray Darling Basin.
The
Condamine River is listed as a Major Flood between
Dalby and
Chinchilla as
well as the Lower Balonne River between
Dirranbandi and
Hebel.
So QLD is having it's share of floods in the Murray Darling Basin.
Gotta love all this
water after so many years of drought :)
Cheers Kev

Vince,
Water is rising at the weir so I wouldn't plan on
camping there for Christmas LOL The upstream levels are listed as Major Floods as of yesterday and are yet to reach
Chinchilla.
They are predicting another 40+mm of rain to fall upstream which will put even more
water in the system. We have cancelled leaving town for Christmas as we can't get to
St George as the roads are flooded.
Cheers Kev

Fair Dinkum Kev we leave town and it buckets down. I was only thinking earlier that the mozzies last night at Dubbo and tonight at
Mildura are not packing as much as a punch as at home. Sure there are millions of the little buggers but i don't know may be they don't like banana benders. Or it could be the two cans of bushman's we have gone through. But yeah got to wear long sleeve's trackies and socks.

The
water is now lapping the bridge at the
Chinchilla weir and still rising :)
I am now on standby for the SES to start evacuating homes in the low lying areas of
Chinchilla ......... and we have had bugger all rain compared with the rest of the region LOL
Cheres Kev

Was up there on the weekend and went through Wangaratta and Yarrawonga, Bundalong etc and it was flooded pretty bad. The Mozzies were real bad. Looked like a lot of river access was cut off however
water levels were dropping but then it's just rained again? I can't see the situation improving by Xmas or Boxing day, will be real muddy and wet I'm tipping.

Does this mean us South Aussies can stop paying our "Save the Murray" levy now?
Pffft... thought that much.

We were camped on the Murry just out of Peringa a couple of weeks ago.

Had a couple of beaut days, got hammered by mozzies on dusk, until
Renmark coppped 80mm in a night. Got up in the morning after it poured all night, walked up the track we came in on and half of it was washed out and flowing like the "Murry".
we packed up in the rain and high tailed it outa there! Spent the next few days in
Mildura drying out!
