As a lad of 14 to 16 years, along with a mate, I'd
camp by the King Parrot
Creek between Kinglake West and
Flowerdale , Victoria.
We'd ride our bikes from Diamond
Creek, sometimes
camping overnight at the Whittlesea Showgrounds on the way.
This was nearly 50 years ago and the area was under the control of the MMBW, now
Melbourne Water.
In January I hope to revisit the King Parrot
Creek along with a few other
places from my youth. My grandson will be with me and we'd like to
camp just as I did all those years ago, only with a bit more comfort and the ute to travel in.
Maybe I can find answers to a few questions.
1) Is
camping still allowed?
2) Will we get a
camping spot in January?
3) How is the area after the bushfires?
4) Can you still drink the
creek water?
Thanks.

Your lucky the rains have come lol...The
creek was bone dry not long ago and remember a trout fisherman
well known in the area how saddened he was to see no
water in it...
Try Fishnet.com under freshwater...

1. There's no mention of a
free camp there in the Camps Australia listing.
3. Have ridden through the area North of
Flowerdale and can't recall there having been much burning; south is a different story.
4. I wouldn't. There will have been some slack sanitary arrangements post-bushfire made worse by this year's heavy rains. Some sheds got burned down and who knows how many cans of toxic gunk melted and polluted the
water table.
