I am considering either a Rencool RTK5 (http://www.rencool.com.au/12_24_air_conditioners.html) or a Red Dot 9777-1 (http://www.rdac.com/Pages/product_pages/units_pages/9777_unit.html) for installation on a Defender 130 dual cab.

I have already sourced a compressor to mount to the engine (td5).

Anyone had any experience with these units, or with mounting a rooftop unit of an kind to a Defender? I'd appreciate any words of wisdom.

The Red Dot units are very good, the US military specifies them for all the vehicles and it could make ice in the Humvee if you wound it up all the way.
There is a big heat load in the Humvee as the transmission and exhaust are up in the tunnel between the seats but it keeps the interior at a pleasant temp even on 40 degree days.

I second Peters remarks about tghe Red Dot units.

We are using them to replace our genuine Toyota air cons on our cruisers and haven't had any problems with them.

Have a good one.
