After alot of care and effort in covering and protecting the back end of our van whilst my husband grind off the old bumper and re made with fuel carriers, and the bike carrier i have now noticed a tinee tiny bit of surface rust above the number plate light and on the covers around the brake lights. These are both plastic but are on the edge near the alliminium/metal... Its clearly from the grinding dust that must have snuck through the gaps somehow.
Does anyone no how to remove it??? And will it get worse??
Its a Coromal lifestyle 610.
Cheers

It is possible that the rust is from the screws that retain the covers, they do not use SS screws. can you post a pic?

The coromal has alluminium sheeting, no metal. Allum.. will not produce rust stains.

As stated in my post ALUMMUINIUM and in "BRACKETS" i wrote METAL..
It is metal fragments from the grinding which has settled on the ALLUMINIUM.
YES there is rust and no its not from the screws it is from grinding as suggested in the post.

it may be steel fragments from the grinding of the old bumper that would have been made from steel, remove with water blast or soap and water wash.they will continue to rust if not removed and may stain the vans surface.

I would be more worried about how adding all this extra weight to the rear of your van will alter its load dynamics and handling than a bit of surface rust.

When grinding it pays to either vacuum all the dust or blow it off with an air hose

All vans have a Legal ATM and an allowable payload which is pretty hard to stick to without adding fuel and bikes to the rear.

This will lighten your ballweight and a tail heavy van is certainly not a safe van.

Also carrying fuel , especially petrol on the rear of a van is rather dangerous.

Lots do it I know but on the A frame is safer.

Coromal also recommend that extra weight not be added to bumper bars due to the extra weight adding to chassis flex..

With my 754 I could not do that anyway as it would exceed the overhang legally allowed. I had to bolt my spare carrier on to be able to say it was temporary.

Adding about 80kg to the bumper has to come out of your payload and when you hit a big bump will be multipied several times putting more strain on the chassis.

A lot more to it than just doing it and not thinking about the consequences.

Well before you go jumping to conclusinos AGAIN. We have checked all this out. Your the same person who jumped at your chance to blast me for having a tool box on our A frame... You like rain'ing on peoples parade dont you.

Once again go around dripping Crap that has nothing to do with my question.

Pehaps I am a bit more safety conscious and try to stay legal

You do what you like, its your van, your money, your life.

I really dont care what you do just try to offer some sensibility in these things.

After seeing vans that are obviously overweight

I wonder what some people are thinking or perhaps not thinking at all.

And Coromal do advise against adding things on the rear towbar.

My dealer wouldnt take responsibility for the spare tyre I put on when I bought the van.

I wasnt Blasting anyone was just offering sensible advice which you obviously dont appreciate so go your own way.

Once you have thoroughly washed and dried it, give it a good coat of polish like carnuba wax (would be good to do the whole van and car too) to prevent the rust from staining. Carnuba cleaner wax will get rid of oxidisation (paint fade) and stains if it has got too bad.

A dose of penetrol will seal it up and prevent rust unless it's chipped off like any other paint.
