Is Innamicka possible?

Hi, have just been told i can have next week off. Yipppeeee. Has any one been up that way this week? Transport SA site says Szelecki track open to 4x4. Would i get an off road van up and is the town common camp ground open? Thanks for any help.

Hi Stephen, sunny and hot down here. They have their wet suits out back at home. I went for a drive around Gawler yesterday. Man where did all these people come from. Its not that sleepy little town I remember. It was good to see the Murray up to the brim. I was told it wouldnt impact South Aust until April. Lot of rain events /cyclones to push more down between now and then. Sorry for hijacking your thread Hoffy.

Hi Sharon
I have been following your trip down via your Blogs. Sorry to see you had trouble, but good to see it was all sorted out.

For me, Gawler has always been big compared to the towns further north and once we hit the bypass, we class that as being in the city, even though it is really Gawler. It has had big changes over the last 15 years or so.

All the very best and have a great stay down here.

Seasons Greetings

Hot and flies. The Cooper was due about now to cut the road at the 14km flood zone near Ballerra, So I expect that wont cause you issues but the Heat and flies will.

I'd phone the Innamincka pub or the trading post and ask.

We spent Xmas/New Year with our family at Innamincka about 15 years ago. Had a great time - sure it was 40+ degrees and lots of flies, but we spent a lot of time in the waterholes, and in the afternoon, we'd head down to the pub - had it mostly to ourselves. New Years eve at the pub was a hoot too.

Cheers
Phil

Yep re Phil's suggestion on phoning locals for the latest - the Trading Post should be a good source too. I know some can enjoy the heat but I've been there too when it was around 40C and with the flies literally on the attack from first light, I found it 'a challenge'...... and that was April (a late summer cycle).... not January :-o).

As SA road site says still doable from your end. We were planning Brisbane to Birdsville then down the track for a ferry ride, but Quilpie to Windorah is no go,so will head to Innaminka and down the Strez instead. We are heading to Coffin Bay and surrounds. Safe journey and enjoy the break.
