hey guys merry christmas, hope ya all having a great day.. i recently just bought a 78 series RV troopy the bloke did tell me it had a transfer case oil leak but did'nt realise how bad it was until i did a good few hundred k trip, not happy! i have bin tryin to work out exactly where its comin from and think it might be a crack in the casing near where it bolts on to the gear box.. if any one has any ideas how to fix it or wat i should do would be great... cheers kai

Yep, you will have to unbolt the transfercase off the back of the gearbox(6 or 8 bolts), replace the gearbox output shaft seal and transfer case input seal(may as
well do both while in there) and use genuine seals. If you have a good trolley jack or gearbox jack, its about 1 1/2hr job.Dont forget to top up the g/box or transfer case afterwards too.

G'day kai, Pressure clean/degrease the whole transmission to determine exactly where the oil is coming from before you go dropping out the transfer case etc. Then make sure it's not a simple case of the seal between the g'box and transfer case letting the oil thru to overfill the gearbox and leak out, an after market bypass hose between g'box and transfer case will solve this problem, it's a common fault.
Hope for your sake that is the cause.
Rob.

Friend of
mine hada leak between gear box and transfer case.
Not a big one and it cost $1500 to fix it as apparently a circlip let go and it chewed a bearing and bits of shaft etc out.
Hope you have better luck
