Hi Brew69
Also have a look at the Motorola Defy. It is basicly the same as the HTC running Android, but gains the Telstra blue tick for reception and is also dust proof and
water resistant to 1metre. The Defy has the same screen size as the iPhone but the phone is physically smaller and lighter, Android phone have a lot of apps. available and do not have compatability problems that iPhones can have e.g Oziexplorer is now available for Android (development version)
Hope this helps with your decision
Chris

Chris that looks nice. The HTC reception is ok but I miss my 6120 reception.

Hi Brew 69,
Yep, couldn't agree with you more! The Iphone is no longer leading the charge in technology and pure phone experience.
I have the HTC HD2, and it is simply gorgeous. It out-performs the Iphone in CPU and is an inch bigger in the screen. There are too many superior features to list here, suffice it to say that all my GPS and OZi Explorer type apps blister along on this beauty, and it won't disappoint.
Apple die-hards won't agree, it's just that they have apple green coloured glasses.

I've had a lot of smart phones including iPhone and the battery life really bugs me. Back in the old Nokia days getting a weeks use from a charge wasn't unusual. Now you can have everything turned off and be flat out getting a day if you make a few calls. I expect that the htc battery life is ordinary as
well? Mike

You have to think of it as a trade off. Basically a smart phone is a laptop. Laptops suffer from poor battery life and they use a much bigger battery. I'm sure the technology is just around the corner. Also there are some better batteries available on ebay.
Thanks for the positive feedback SmokeyD

Brew, I have had an HTC Touch, a Nokia E71 and now an iPhone 4. The battery life is good for two days while checking emails every hour, and being on overnight, and making and taking calls. The Nokia lasted nearly two days as long as you didn't spend too much time on the phone in difficult areas. The HTC was the worst phone I ever had for reliability. The first board was replaced at 10 months, then at 13 months I was told the phone needed a new board again. Both times after trips into South Australia. Two year contract for a 13 month phone:-(
The iPhone bluetooth works as it should but the HTC didn't work properly with either car. The Nokia worked OK but the range was pretty poor, even for Next G. The iPhone seems to get through pretty
well anywhere around here.
What I like about the iPhone is it works as people do, but I do have a solid Speck case for it.

The latest Aust Personal Computer mag (Jan 2011) has two pages on their top 10 smartphones (both above phones included), you might like to have a quick squiz at this sometime as
well.
Cheers, John

I've had the HTC Desire for 4 months now and find it awesome.
I was one of these people that wanted a phone to talk on and nothing else, but since being told that I could have the HTC for $7 more on my plan and be able to have WiFi and internet I jumped at it.
Great
camera(5mp), great apps, heaps of memory and lots of free games to keep the kids happy.
Also very easy to use and setup with the menu's available.
Now the missus is getting one when her plan runs out.
Cheers Steve

I have an HTC Desire for 3 months. Have no complaints or issues with the phone and would happily buy another. The sensors including PROPER GPS make it an amazing phone. The Google mapping and now OziExplorer are magic. The amount of free applications which make the phone useful are amazing. Never did I realise I would find the bubble level and compass so handy. The
camera is good and they way it syncs the pictures to your computer is good.
Another thing to consider with the iPhone 4 is the breaking screens which is a major issue.
