Well still waiting for mr toyota to advise me how and when they are going to fix the V8 using up to 2.0litres of engine oil every 3000km. Cant get any indication from service dept as to why they use so much and on questioning mechanic he was clearly sworn to silence!Have heard rumours about piston rings has anyone heard anything else.

Because its due to come out of warranty soon, I have just Toyota do an oil consumption test, on my V8 Troopy.
They quoted me that anything below 1 litre of oil used per 8000ks is acceptable.
Above that figure they will replace the seals in the turbo scavenger pump (about 3 hours work).
If you have the 200 series its a different motor and I am not sure whether the above figures apply.
Go to your Toyota dealer and request a test – it’s a standard procedure - they shouldn't refuse.
They do the test and tabulate the oil usage – your figures are not used as a basis for warranty work.

My Nissan doesn't need a top up from one oil change to the next. And it is well out of warranty.

Maybe that is why Toyota's are so loved by the Saudi's

Mark - something doesn’t quite gel here.
If the vehicle is under warranty, with those consumption figures (their own you say), Toyota will remedy it; they will have no option. Is the vehicle still under warranty?

As long as my arse points at the ground I will never accept that 1 litre of oil per 8000 km is acceptable. Perhaps 40 years ago, but modern, well engineered and manufactured engines should use nothing like that; especially from a company that prides itself on reliability.

Jim.

If Toyota has that specification for their V8 diesels then such is life.
Don’t buy one if it worries you.

Is it a 70 or 200?
Have you had it on Oil watch? If so what was the result of that?

Two litres of oil every 3,000 Km? I wouldn't worry about it. Just think all that power you have & driving probably the best 4WD in the world....what's a couple of litres of oil gunna matta? It's probably only the oil rings on the pistons. I wonder how many other Toyota V8 owners are experiencing the same problem as you? Hope it gets sorted for you without to much inconvenience.
