Hi Avan,
You can buy these little things from any good camping store.
Mine are green with a black push button on top.I can't think what they're called just at present but you place the bottom end over the bite & press the button.
It works for me even if I have to do it several times in one try.
Then when they start to itch again give them another shot or 3.
Where are you?
Take care,safe travels.
Bye Ma.

They are called a "Mosquito Click". We swear by them. They are great, even on things like ant bites. From memory they are about $20, but last for 5000 clicks - or so the packaging says.

I was listening to the ABC after the cricket finished early in Latte town the other day, and this subject was discussed at length.
A chemist came on and said rub the bite with anything that contains alcohol.
However, !!!!!! another "bite" ? specialist came on and said to apply heat, via water, compress etc, as hot as can be tolerated. That apparently is the latest 1st aid application for all stinger bites, including blue bottles, mossies, midgies etc.
Don't shoot the messenger....only passing on what I heard it on the ABC, as maybe others did??

Fred
Why can’t I shoot the messenger? Pretty soon there will be no fun at all.
As you know a Mosquito bite is the same as marriage.....wait two days and the scratching stops! LOL
Have a good one. Cheers.

Hi all
My wife communicates with a friend in the US whose husband is a chief anasthetic whatever in a major hospital and the Hot Water thing is apparently a suggested option, but only if it can be done fairly soon after the event. My wife has tried it and reckon it does work to some extent but not fantastic.
Had not heard of the Mosquito Bites thing ...... will let the Wife know

Hi Avan, Doug, Borgy & Dave,Applying neat Lavender oil onto the large itchy insect bites also works if they aren't scratched open.

Hi Avan,
ran into a mate a few weeks back and they were highly impressed with this
http://www.moodai.webs.com/
Blow me down if it also wasn't on a caravan
forum I was reading a few days back as
well. It is all natural and apparently came from the sellers Aboriginal ancestors in SE Queensland. (I hope I got that right.)
I have no affiliation etc etc but will be buying some on my mates recommendation.

The good old Tea Tree Oil - a dab of the pure stuff, lots of benefits not just the relief of the itch and sting.

If at
home, rubbing the gel from breaking an Aloe Vera leaf on any bites does wonders, particularly if used soon after being bitten. I can't take an Aloe Vera plant across some state borders, so have to rely on products such as a freeze feeling gel from the pharmacy.

My mum always told me to put a "cross" on it and it will stop hurting.
By "cross", she meant to press hard with your fingernail to leave a good imprint on it. Then do it again to make a "cross" (if that makes sense).
If anything, at least the pain will mask/disguise the itchiness temporarily!!!

Our son was having bad reactions to the mozzies up north a few years ago and an Aboriginal guide told us to rub banana skin on them (the inside). It actually worked, placebo or not I don't know, but the reactions went down quite quickly.

Hi... we have had success with a chemist bought line called Animine similar to calamine lotion but more effective.
And to stop being bitten at all, try spraying exposed skin with any brand of spray deodorant. works for us. good luck.

A nurse friend of ours put us onto a cream called Germolene, anyone from england will know it well, it is not available in stores but is available for about $10 a tube online, we normally buy 6 or so tubes at a time..It is brilliant stuff it contains a local antiseptic in it so it numbs the area straight away, we have sensitive skin on some of our kids and it doesnt worry them either, we have also tried the cream to the extreme when one night while out camping out the back of
Tom Price WA our eldest son was bitten by a Centepede he was in agony so I smothered this cream all over his foot and put a sock on his foot and stuffed it full of ice, it worked a treat!!
It works a treat on Mozzie bites as it makes the whole area numb also very good on cuts and grazes...It is the essential thing that I take whenever we go camping.

My mother in law (in her late 80s) uses straight vinegar, just rub it well into the bite. It has worked for me the last few nights, we have a plague of mossies at the moment.

l heard on the radio the other day that a dab of vegimite on the bite works, and as a suffer of the mozzies l thankfully found this to be true.
