What do others do to fill their tanks that are fitted with nonreturn fittings .I own a LOTUS van and want to be able to fill from a dam or drums etc, the fitting is fitted at the bottom of the tank .What type of pump 12v would be suitable for this application all suggestions welcome, I have no trouble filling from a tap but sometimes need to fill where no tap is .

So far you have posted 3 threads on this subject. You realy only need to ask once then wait for some answers, Sometimes it might take awhile to get an answer.

Dave,

I think your comments are a bit harsh, its no wonder some people get scared away from the forum when people answer like you have in this manner. Surely you can remember when you were first on here and were learning how the forum worked as well as asking for help and new information.

Please give the guy a break and be constructive in your comments.

Pojo,

I have a Lotus as well and I just use a Sureflow pump (the same as you will have in van for the shower/sink etc. I have just put a long 12V lead on it with a switch and some reinforced plastic hose.

I tend to get a 20 litre drum of from a river or somewhere suitable and then connect it to a filter which then is connected to the tank filler on the side of the van and just suck the water out of the container into the tank via the filter.

It works well for me.

Cheers,

Cruiser

Cruiser,
Sorry I didn't mean to come across as harsh, What I meant was that sometimes it takes a while to start getting some answers, So no need to keep starting new threads asking the same question.
Cheers Dave..

Hi Pojo,
I have a $25--- 400gph 12v bilge pump and drop it into a bucket alongside the filler and transfer water from rivers etc this way. I have a home irrigation filter attached to hose which keeps solids from entering tank. Have also fitted a 12v plug close to the filler for ease of obtaining 12v to power the pump and a on/off switch iinline on the lead. Works great.

There is also a system to pump straight from the bucket into the van using existing pump in van to save putting suspect water in your tanks which also enables you to heat the water over the camp fire and pump it to the shower thereby saving on the gas.
As I am not a full member I cannot post a photo but if you are interested send me your email address and I will send a photo to you.

This is what I use at the moment......I modified the tank filling points on the caravan as below

And I use this 12VDC whale pump from BCF which fits neatly into the neck hole of a plastic jerry can which I fill at the water source.

So I can fill from a jerry or bucket or river.

All the fittings are snap on hose type which gives me the flexibilty I need to mix and match for what I want to do at the time....very flexible.
