Why don't they charge them for endangering lives and send them a bill for the rescue and repairs to the police vehicle. I know accidents happens but when it is plain stupidity they should cover the cost of the rescue.

"They" being the people driving the vehicle. They put their lives and the lives of the rescuers at risk by doing something really stupid. Same as these people jumping into flooded rivers for a thrill. Stupidity is not a reason to do stupid things.
Yes I did stupid things when I was younger but not to put other peoples lives at risk.

Hit the water at 80KPH!!! interesting kinda think it would have almost flipped end over end hitting 1 metre deep water at that speed.

Wish there was a video.

Hi
It is about time that State Government make idiots like this pay a very heavy toll for what they put our Police and SES people through. People like this should never be aloud to hire vehicles in Australia.

Like any debt that is incurred in Australia, they must be paid to have the recovery bill and any other related cost paid in full before leaving Australia, or else they should be sent to goal.

Another very good deterrent would be to make them hook up the recovery line.

Cheers

Probably wont get any insurance if they drove past road closed sign either.

Various Police spokespeople have said this sort of action will incur charges (as in legal driving).

Some states have a charge per wheel of up $ 1000 a pop for doing that dont they.

About time a few of them got hit in the pocket.

" Weve got a 4wd it will take us anywhere The Mitsubishi ads say so"

Yeah right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well hello all, merry christmas and happy new year, i hope your new started better than mine???

Well driving up to the Saturated coast aka Sunshine coast, saw another stupid thing, a patrol sniffing the backside of a b double at 100 to 110 kays an hour, pouring down rain and when i mean pouring down i mean it.

I have done some stupid things in my life too, alot i regret, others i am a victim of, but i do it knowing that it is my life. Now a days, i think about what i have to loose first then work backwards, and find another way!!!

No I wouldnt call it stupidy as much as it looks that way , I would call it plain ignorance. obviously not 4wd drivers, too many tourist think hire a 4wd we can go anywhere at any time, I strongly beleive that 4wd should not be hired out to tourist unless they can demostate 4wd and survival abilty if not then they will have to do a course here in australia before they can hire a 4wd.That still wont stop all of them but im sure it will reduce the incidents

Believe me, it will cost them. That is a Europcar rental, and water damage is not covered by the rental agreement. They have just “bought” that car, as the insurers will write that off. What’s the cost of new Pajero now a days?

When I was working up in the Kimberley some young European tourists rolled their rental 4WD. They showed me their insurance policy & some one had actually used a highlighter to point out that in the event of a single car accident the insurance was void.

Looks like another one of those expensive lessons learnt!

Years ago I was out east of Alice Springs. Sudden downpour, creeks came up and the cars formed a convoy of sorts to get back to Alice. They were 2wd cars not 4x4s.

At one crossing we were looking at it and the German tourist said how he would get across. Along the lines of, I go back a bit, build up lots of speed and drive across. It took a lot of persuasion that he would skid off the causeway into the deeper water and probably drown. We kept him in the middle of the convoy so that he would see how it was done. We all got across the rising creeks and back to Alice.

He was not stupid. He simply had no idea and needed a bit of guidance.

It seems the Germans in this latest episode ignored the guidance they were given.
