Hi all,
Please excuse me if there is already a thread created about this, I'm a newbie :)
For the last couple of years we have made do with camping in a 4 person dome tent, we haven't been camping in extreme weather or anything so it has done us
well. But after our last camping trip we moved around quite a bit and camped near
the beach..... now I think the tent is coming to an end :(
We want to get a heavy duty tent, and one that isn't going to take forever to set up and ideally we would like to be able to stand up in the tent also.
We have been looking at the Oztent, but we find when pack up it is too long, as we would like to be able to fit this in the back of a 4WD ute (approx 1.75m long).
There is only 2 of us and a dog haha No kiddies.
Any suggestions??
Oh and aren't we looking to borrow cash so please suggest reasonable priced tents (max around the $1000 mark) :) Thanks

The only thing we didn't like about the tourer tents is the pole in the middle. Just personal preference :)
I might have a look at the Turbo 300 in canvas instead of Poly. We had a look in
BCF but they only seemed to have the Turbo lite (poly) ones, I will have to
check out Anaconda.
Does any one have the Turbo 300 in canvas? Also is their a particular time of year people have found it more likely for tent retailers to have sales on tents?
Once we have decided on the tent we will have to
check out ebay.
Thank you everyone for your responses so far..

For our usage we couldn't justify spending on a Freedom or
Southern Cross and we didn't want to spend that sort of money until we were sure we liked the tourer style tents anyway.
We ended up with an Outdoor Connection Cooper Touring Tent, the thing we liked the most is the lower windows that you can have open for ventilation even in nasty weather. There is ample room in it for a double mattress (or two singles) on one side of the pole which leaves loads of room on the other side (for gear or if we were doing some real quick overnighter and decided to just set this tent up and sleep the kids in there too. We have two kids (6 and 8) and had a camper trailer in the past.
We have only used it for the first time over the Christmas break, not much water got into it when I was "weathering it in" prior to that and none during rain when we had it set up thereafter. It's reasonably heavy because my husband likes to keep the ground mat all the poles and everything else in it's bag! Set up is very quick, quicker than the kids hiking type tent I reckon, depending on how many windows you decide to peg out.
At this stage I'd be happy to recommend it, actually would love to get one like it for the kids as
well but that's probably not feasible at the moment :(
The only thing I was against was the floor, not heavy duty pvc type but more like a tarp (I think similar to the OzTrails in that regard) but in reality we figure we would always have a ground sheet (expensive annexe mat) anyway, otherwise I would have gone for the Oz version or Primus COI (but I saw some bad reviews on primus in regards to quality of workmanship which put me off a bit)
