Howdy all, i am in the process of chasing down the gear for my dual battery system.
I wanna know if the Redarc 100A isolator is still regarded as a good unit. I fitted one about 3 years ago to another car and it did
well, but since then have read a couple of threads about some failing etc.
I like the price of that unit, and also the jump start feature. Plus i know i can fit it in my engine bay with a bracket that suits my car, making the job of fitting very easy.
I nticed on Ebay that the Matson and Projecta 150A isolators are around the same price too though, but just wanted to know if the Redarc was still a favourite. When i purchased it last time it was the pick of the crop.
Have things changed?
Will be wiring it all myself, as its the only way to get things done properly around here.
Cheers

Hi Muntoo,
I have had the Redarc fitted to my 100 series for a couple of years now, and no problems what so ever. Not too sure about about the other types you mention but the "jump start feature" on the Redarc is a really good feature as my start batteries (after 4 or so years failed the other day) and it made starting the vehicle quite easy, until I got
home and had time to replace the start batteries.
Cheers
Howard

I chose a 2 way, 200A RedArc because it was locally made in
Adelaide and there was good local back-up (which I have never needed).

Hey Muntoo,
I'm using the 200A isolator as
well as the BCDC1220 DC charger. Found them to be very good and as you'll see from quite a few threads on the
forum, their customer service is very good.
My review of Redarc products used.
Cheers Mick

They are a very popular unit, so hearing about a few failures is probably ok percentage wise.

I have had a "dual" battery system for years. My second batteries are on the draw bar of my caravan and therefore not permanently on line. All I use is a standard 150 amp relay energised by the car's ignition. Works fine and cheep to install. The positive line is fused either end.

I agree with that.
I went from a Redark back to a simple solenoid system which is operated from the ign and it works best of all IMHO. No ign, no connection to car battery, turn on ign to start and second battery adds to start battery. Never a problem.
Cheers, Bruce.

Yes that would be a DIY location. You should have space for a 10 inch battery passenger side in front of the air filter.
The BT50 alternator voltage will not be a problem for any of the VSR type isolators.

Excellent, thanks everybody.
Looks like Redarc it is again.
I can get one for $88 delivered off Ebay. I think thats a very good price.
I reckon i can get the full system including a tray, wiring and battery for under $500.
Im happy with that.
