Hi guys sorry to bug you about this subject as I know it has been done to death. I am seeking advice regarding insurance for our Trak Shak that was delivered today.

The advice I am after is who to insure it with?

Are their specialists that have a good rep and have reasonable premiums?

Can you insure the contents (fridges, annex walls, stoves, gas bottles etc etc) as part of the trailer/replacement cost. With all of the accessories the cost is much higher than just the cost of the trailer.

Can you get cover that includes all of the accessories and contents.

Thanks, any advice would be most appreciated as I am researching this as we speak.

Regards

Thanks Guys I will have a look at both. I have policies with both Shannons and AAMI, however neither of these companies will deal with Camp Trailers.

Hi Jason

I have my camper trailer insurance with AAMI. I have a 3/4 annex and one night I had my fishing gear under the annex and some low life stole all of it. AAMI covered it without any problems.

Hi guys I just contacted AAMI and they indicated that they would not cover the Trak Shak as it did not pop up into a hard roof type caravan. As it is made of canvas they will not cover it. I indicated to them that I had advice from people who have similar items insured with them and I was told that they should contact AAMI and re-visit their cover as they may not be covered.

I understand this is contrary to the advice received but this is the second time I have been refused cover by AAMI and I have House, and vehicle cover with them. (for 15 years and never made a claim)

Hi guys just thought would give you an update on my insurance research.

I have contacted the following companies and here is the premium costs based on the following full retail prices of the Trak Shak as follows.

Trailer insured value $28380 (including kids cubby)
Annex value $ 1750 (wall kit)
Contents $ 6000 (fridges, generator, and sundries)

All quotes are for full off road cover anywhere in OZ and include 20 million in public liability.

CIL $608.50pa or $50.71per month. Excess $200. Agreed value and depreciated cover 5-10%pa.

AMMI would not insure.

QBE $453pa or $41.15per month. $150 Excess. Market value, decided by QBE at the time of any claim being made.

MHIA $919.05pa, $76.56per month $200 excess. Agreed value depreciated yearly.

NRMA $593.98pa or $52.05per month. $200 excess, $400 excess for hail or cyclone related damage. Agreed value at purchase price or higher if aditional mods made for the life of the covered item.

And the winner is:

I will most likely go with the NRMA whilst not being the cheapest (QBE was by far) this cover includes everything all of the others do, emergency accommodation, towing, recovery, full off road Australia wide etc etc. The main benefit I found with this policy is that the NRMA will not depreciate the cover on the Trak Shak, it will be insured for the full purchase amount for the time insured. So 10 years down the Trak it can still be insured for the full value. I do have the option of reducing the amount covered if wish to over this period to reduce the premium if desired.

All very confusing and time consuming. Thanks to all how have provided comments, and recommendations.

Thanks for the summary. I'm going through the same process.

One thing to do is read their PDSs carefully and talk to a rep.

Eg. CIL contents cover does not include anything under the awning or within soft walls. So if it's not locked in a box, forget it. They also have an additional excess of $400 for any incident that occurs off a sealed road, so that means you're paying tthe first $600 for any such. Their policy does however cover accidental damage that occurs inside the CT such as spilling a cuppa over your laptop.

Hi Jason
I also went through this not long ago, and found MHIA was one of the best at the time, so may be worth a consideration as well.
The main thing is to read the PDS thoughly and not rely on anything the rep tells you. A lot say they will cover the camper but when you read the PDS most state this is for hard wall campers only, therfore only fully covered while closed up.
Does NRMA class a camper as a caravan or trailer? this is not very clear in their PDS. If it's classed as a trailer, which I assume it would be, they do not offer emergeny accomdation.
