Repairs to flood damaged roads a priority
Western Downs Regional Council is pulling out all stops to repair severely flood damaged roads and bridges with the region’s vast road network left in a dangerous condition due to continued storms and flooding.
“Our roads have taken a real battering with main highways and crucial main roads still under water or left in a state of disrepair. In many cases large sections of road have been washed away,” said Western Downs Mayor Ray Brown.
“The top priority is to repair the worst affected areas and most dangerous sections to make them safer for motorists.
“All available roadwork crews have been mobilised to assess flood damage and perform urgent works on critically affected roads and bridges on a prioritisation basis.
“Council is working closely with Main Roads crews so that all roads of importance are restored as soon as possible.
“This along with the unstable weather at the moment could lead to delays in attending to local roads and residents are asked to remain patient as roads will only be reopened to traffic when it’s safe to do.
“I urge motorists to drive to the conditions and adhere to road signage that has been specifically placed to ensure their safety at all times throughout the day and night,” he said.
