Kev,

I just came up the range about 1 hour ago and they were both open, however traffic is at a extremely slow crawl.....no speed camera activity today LOL The down section has one lane closed however due to landslides and the road lifted just before withcott.

The potholes are starting to echo!

They aren't potholes they are direct routes to China for all the coal truck travelling through ;)

I take it you are no longer needed in Rocky?? If you see the Chinchilla SES boat in Toowoomba can you tell them to hurry up and finish servicing it as I think we are going to need it again soon LOL

Hi Kev

I used the Gore Hwy from Toowoomba to Goondiwindi on Wednesday. The road was completely dry, and I was only held up by roadwords for about 10 minutes to the north east of Millmerran.

Gee all this abd news.

I should count myself lucky that we were able to get to Goondiwindi and back last weekend without a problem.

Let's hope this weather settles down soon for all those unlucky enough to be caught up in this can get back to some form of normality.

Unbelievable weather!

Media Release
6 January 2010 @ 4pm
Repairs to flood damaged roads a priority
Western Downs Regional Council is pulling out all stops to repair severely flood damaged roads and bridges with the region’s vast road network left in a dangerous condition due to continued storms and flooding.
“Our roads have taken a real battering with main highways and crucial main roads still under water or left in a state of disrepair. In many cases large sections of road have been washed away,” said Western Downs Mayor Ray Brown.
“The top priority is to repair the worst affected areas and most dangerous sections to make them safer for motorists.
“All available roadwork crews have been mobilised to assess flood damage and perform urgent works on critically affected roads and bridges on a prioritisation basis.
“Council is working closely with Main Roads crews so that all roads of importance are restored as soon as possible.
“This along with the unstable weather at the moment could lead to delays in attending to local roads and residents are asked to remain patient as roads will only be reopened to traffic when it’s safe to do.
“I urge motorists to drive to the conditions and adhere to road signage that has been specifically placed to ensure their safety at all times throughout the day and night,” he said.
Western Downs Regional Council reports the following road closures due to flooding and repairs:
Warrego Highway between Macalister and Warra; and also east of Dalby
• Moonie Highway near Loudoun Bridge due to severe pavement damage
• Joseph Road between Wallaby Track and Weitzles Road closed due to flooding
• Old Moonie Road between the Surat Basin Development Road and McLeods Road due to flooding
• Leichhardt Highway between Miles and Condamine closed due to flooding
• Leichhardt Highway from The Gums to Condamine closed due to flooding
Motorists should keep an eye on other local trouble spots including:
• Bunya Highway
Dalby-Jandowae Road
Dalby-Cooyar Road
• Local Council roads subject to localised flooding

Well that last hour was a complete waste of time. I only just worked out which way to come home to the darling downs from Broken Hill after listening to the radio this arvo and sifting through the web sites of road closures. I think we will have to rely on the uhf or your posts Kev. It has been one hell of an event up there since we left home three weeks ago our place has fared pretty well so far apparently just got to use a 4x4 to get out the drive way. The Darling R is flowing pretty fast and the Murray is flowing over the locks.

Bundaberg had another 70mm overnight with 200mm forcast by the end of the weekend.

Heard that the Goodwood Road is washed out again removing the temporary fix of last week.

Water is just running out of the hillsides now and have some Avocados dropping leaves even on red soil.

Mick,

Noone in the Chinchilla Office believed me yesterday when I said the Myall was going to rise over 2.0m again in Dalby. It wasn't until I showed them (2 Councillors) that Clydesdale was over 3.0m and rising fast (20cm/h) that they actually started to scramble to warn Dalby residents LOL

If the rain continues in the Myall Creek catchment I think it may rise again possibly over 3.0m if enough falls tonight :(

Cheers Kev

Hi Kev,

I'd believe that, what people fail to realise is the land is so wet none of the falling rain is being soaked up before it gets to the waterways, therefore a small amount of rain is making BIG changes in levels.....:(

ONE day somepeople will learn to listen...I hope.....

We are home safe and sound. It was a race to get to the Condamine on the Gore Hwy. The race was lost to the river and were turnd away and the road was closed in front of us. So it was a quick turn left up Lemon Tree road to CecilPlains-Toowoomba road to beat the Condamine. We got caught in a down pour there. I didnt get too many photos, too busy looking around. Im lost for words with the distruction.

I drove over the Bridge at Chinchilla Weir on friday only for it to flood once again over the weekend and it is now 1.6m under water. The water is still rising once again. It was 5.38m under water 10 days ago so it will be interesting to see how high it will go this time.
