I'm not sure what info you want, I have a 17' Royal Flair single axle Discovery (not for sale) and would do the trip you mention including the GRR without hesitation.
I carry two spare wheels compatible with my tow vehicle, have an extra water tank (65lt), solar panels, an outside shower, a Weber Baby Q on the A frame and find we are very self sufficient as like you we rarely visit caravan parks. I am happy with my set up.

Thanks Rob , you have exactly the set up we want, the one we are looking at does not have solar or extra water tank but we will put them on if we buy good to hear you are happy with the van.

Sue and Joe. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have. My RF is the Discovery Tuff Roder with the 6" galvanised frame, heavy but then that's the trade off. I find it trails extremely well, is very comfy and looks very smart with the chequer plate all round.
My solar panel is'nt permanently mounted, I put it out when we are set up, two water tanks, one for drinking and cooking the other one I call the "Opportunity Tank", I fill it up out of creeks, water holes, bore drains or where ever the opportunity presents itself and use it for washing and so on.

Since I bought it I've changed the interior lights to LED, fitted a 12v water pump for the sink, an outside water tap and fronts on all the inside of all the cupboards to prevent the contents spilling out every time you open the door.

Rob.

Hi Sue and Joe.
We bought our Royal Flair in 2006, customised for us by the factory. There were some detail issues from new but nothing major (hard to get good staff). We have taken it to Strzelecki, Flinders etc, it has been bogged and been on horrendous corrugations. Nothing has failed. It wasn't dust proof at first - we had 1 cm of dust inside early on, but have tracked down most entry points. We love the G&S independent suspension. It has Landcruiser wheels interchangeable with the tow vehiicle. I wold call it a rough road van, not an off road van, but I believe it will hold up to off road use with care.
