Any Carry Me Camper owners around that went for the option of the storage bay for the jacks?

I am currently considering a second hand unit, and want to know the internal dimensions of the storage bay so I can consider alternative storage arrangements for the jacks (under the tray).

I'm also looking for feedback from anyone who has put a single cab model (length 2100mm) on the back of a Land Rover Defender 130 Dual Cab (My tray is 1900mm long), or anyone that has created alternative tie-down points for their Carry Me Camper other than those supplied - how did you do it, any issues etc.

Regards,

Tim

Thanks very much Mark. The gap I have is only 100mm high - am I right to assume the 150mm is the minimum height required no matter which way the jacks are oriented (sorry - the jacks never made it out of the shed at todays inspection)?

The footplate on the base of the Jacks measure 120mm high when the Jacks are laying on their side so 100mm may not be enough

Hi Tim,
We got the storage bay but usually leave it and the jacks at home. We tend to move every few days so it was just extra weight and lost space. We may reconsider if we were going to camp somewhere for a week or so. It only takes 10 minutes to pack up and the same to set up. As it has our recovery gear in it we are not likely to leave the camper behind!

The supplied tie downs are not sufficient where you get sudden lateral movements. I have broken two chains and one eye bolt. The issue is the ease with which the camper moves from side to side given enough of a nudge. First attempt was to get rid of the little rubber pads and attach conveyer belt rubber to the bottom of all the load bearing beams under the camper (Idea from Candy Canvas). This helped a fair bit as steel on steel just slides. In the end I got some rails made up that are bolted to the tray and then the camper. I was surprised at how easy it was to actually re attach the camper, I had thought lining it up again would be a pain. The secret is two stops at the front to make sure the camper is located correctly. I still put on the original tie downs as the rails are connected to the tray and the originals connect to the frame of the tray. So I guess the whole tray would need to detatch now. Having said that on one trip we did destroy the U bar the tray attches to in five of the eight mount points.

Steve
